LCFC v Brentford.png

Would be very happy with that (not least because I took a punt on Praet in my fantasy team :D).

Very narrow, so would be relying on JJ and Castagne to get forward and in doing so, we need Wilf to be switched on and back to his old self to drop back and support the cbs - particularly Evans' pace.

Iversen/Ward feels like a coin flip so happy either way.

Looks like the team is:

Ward

Amartey

Evans

Fofana

Castagne

Tielemans

Ndidi

KDH

Justin

Maddison

Vardy

Why on earth would we play 3 at the back at home to dog mess like Brentford and go 3-5-1-1 instead of 3-4-1-2?

Also what's the incentive of Tielemans sorting his future out if we're just going to play our hand with him. It's not even cutting our nose off to spite our face, his form last season makes him no longer guaranteed first choice which I'm staggered I'm saying it but I'd show him he's in danger of being in no position to go to Qatar being match ready.

You could move amartey to right back and push Castagne to right side midfield with kdh left side and play 4-4-1-1

but you surely wouldn’t ????

???? No I think he means why are we playing such a defensive line up at home to Brentford if true?? We have the likes of Daka and Kelechi to play 2 up top, madders can play in a midfield 3, there's many line ups where we can be attacking, but there's no need to play Amartey and until he commits either way no need to play Youri.

My team

Iversen

Justin

Fofana

Evans

Castagne

Ndidi

KDH

Praet

Maddison

Daka

Vardy

If this is the case mate, I’m genuinely sharpening my pitch forks already…jokes 🤓

Honking idea to play 3 at the back like you said against a very, very average Brentford side.

Be interesting if anyone is a actually left out of the squad today as a result of potential transfer activity. I'm not expecting so but in this game you never know.

Chelsea haven’t given squad numbers to Barkley or Gilmour….have we done that with any of our unwanted players?

The theory is sound, the reality is that they don't do it and with them, the back 3 and other midfielders, they just clogg the midfield area, play short passes to each other and put themselves under pressure before the opposition inevitably intercept the ball or we make a wayward pass.

Exactly, 3 at the back is a good system if you have the players and the manager demands it executed in the right way. Sadly we've neither. I also don't think Maddison has really thrived in a back 3 for some reason, maybe it's only ever been played when he was either off form or coming back from injury but one of my biggest criticisms of us using it is we've never had that ACM whether it be Maddison, Perez or another player revel in this system.

Hope not. That's Castagne RM/RW should never be tried again after the first half against Sevilla.

Top of the league by the end of the day :scarf:

I just hope that if it is a back 3 then it's a front 2 of Either Daka or Iheanacho and Vardy. Midfield 3 of Ndidi, KDH and Maddison.

It's been said plenty of times but if we could get that side to work it could be great.

Why Amartey and no Soyuncu?

Wright and Brunt.

Which is where I’m with @Ric Flair.

We NEED to be bastards, Hamza, Jannik you’re not in our plans so don’t have a squad number NOT two young players who are on peanuts in comparison.

This season is depressing AF already isn’t it?

Only concern is the width. Brentford used a wide formation a lot last season. This could really expose us down the wings.

I don't think you can spend your life worrying about or trying to negate the opposition, particularly when it's Brentford. Just because they employ wingers doesn't necessarily mean they're any good. Neither if you control other areas of the pitch are they going to get the ball much anyway.

Either way, if under pressure, a solid back 4 shielded by Ndidi should be able to cope with what they've got. It's down to us to press them and give them something to panic and worry about, we've got ample firepower and talent in midfield to do that. Just don't sit back in last season's inevitable slow start and invite trouble. We should be frightening these to death with what we've got!

About that, Skysports feature Jones Knows prediction:

Forgive and forget. That's my motto with Leicester City and their underperformance last season. They finished a disappointing eighth in the Premier League last term, picking up 52 points. It was a 12-point underachievement on what we had seen from Brendan Rodgers' side in the two previous seasons. Key defensive injuries cost them the opportunity to play Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans together as a partnership last season. That was massive. Having a fully-fit Fofana ready to go from the first whistle is an exciting prospect. To my eye, he's the best young centre-back in world football. No wonder Chelsea are toying with the idea of paying £80m for him.

With a far more settled side and no European football to negotiate, there is enough quality in the dugout in Rodgers and in his exciting young side to really kick-on again this season. Read here why I'm backing them for a top-six finish and if they are going to be capable of those heights, Brentford really shouldn't be giving them too many problems.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-0

The linked piece is a good read, BTW

Not necessarily worrying, more being aware of their strengths/ how they'll likely attack and how that could impact our structure defensively if we're playing very narrow

Likewise they need to be aware of the benefits of a team playing narrowly. I'm sure as professionals our lot should be well on top of it.
