If I were Evans I’d be looking for a 2yr deal somewhere. If I were the club I’d be looking at a one year, option of a second year based on performances and lower basic with higher appearance fee. Overall he’s been a brilliant signing but it’s easy to see how we may be too far apart to do a deal.

I'm normally keen to not take stuff personally and to strip the emotion out and be pragmatic but I actually think you're right. In fact, I actually think they're one and the same.

I think the smart, pragmatic thing to do is to cut ties. I get he's at a stage in his career where he needs to think carefully about his next move and I don't resent that or hold any grudge but I 100% think it's the wrong attitude for a leader.

Listen to Coady, he's thrilled to be here, it's the easiest decision he's made in years. That's what you want to hear. Even if you strip Evans of the captaincy, he's still going to be a senior figure in the dressing room. You can't have senior players who are half in. Get him walking.

Even last season when he was under contract and captain he was still only half in. There’s no way this man plays a part in the coming season regardless of how good he can be on his day.

Do we read that as we've made him a pretty low offer, he can take it or leave it?

As I’ve stated earlier I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve offered him a contract similar to Big Wes’ final contract with us. Pay cut and clear understanding that you will be a back up but wanted for your experience.

Loved him here but cant be left dangling by a supposed senior player of the club, offer needs be rescinded at this stage.

For him, I cant see many other clubs taking a punt on him on terms considering his injury record and current ability unless it was on a pay as you play basis.

Really hope he doesn't sign a new deal, be foolish not to give Coady the captaincy. With Justin and Ricardo likely staying, a 3rd injury player and likely big wages for Championship standards is just stupidity. The experience is evidently being attempted to be replaced already.

I agree and now we've got Coady whilst he's been thinking about it, we've got the experience and leader we need. Should have committed himself earlier. Too late now, surplus to requirements.

He was an abysmal captain last season, his comments were way off down the stretch an'all when he did come back.

2019/20 and 2020/21 he was phenomenal but since then he's declined big time.

I thought those last two or three games reminded me what a good player he was tbf.

He was captain courtesy of Rodgers giving the players a vote. A vote FFS. A decent manager would recognise leadership potential in a way that might being the best out the player and benefit the team most. A vote, deary me

Training with Man Utd

Jonny Evans is training with Manchester United as he looks to maintain his fitness following the expiry of his contract with Leicester.

Evans, 35, arrived for training at Carrington on Saturday and the Manchester Evening News understands the defender has been training with the team for the past week as he considers his options for the new season.

It's understood Evans has spent time training with both the academy and the first-team group and sources have indicated it has benefited both parties, with the player using the facilities 'while lending his quality and experience' at Carrington.

A club source has said it's 'part of the club philosophy that former players are always welcome back', particularly those who came up through the academy, and Evans' presence has been considered helpful for younger players.

Why have we not rescinded the contract offer?

Evans has been injured and at 35 we cannot rely on players of this type.

Evans doesn't do relegation very well after being relegated a couple of times. Apparently he has offers he is considering. From his injury record over the last 2 seasons and his advanced age I cannot see anyone taking him on anything other than a pay per play contract.

The fact he’s training at United would indicate he’s turned it down, or the club have done just that IMO. Just might not have been made public yet.

I’d be chuffed if that’s the case.

If he's training at United then it's clear he's not our player anymore.

Safe to say we've seen the last of him. Terrific player in his early part with us, decent in the last part but we all know his injuries were part of our downfall.

He was a class above in his early part with us and we can always at least thank him for making Harry Maguire look like an £85million player.

Shame it ended for him the way it did, but he wasn't the only one. Move on, if he ends up at Everton then I think we got the better deal in the long run with them not pursuing Coady.

Wish him the best, but if I was his agent I'd be pushing for a 2 year sunshine break in the Saudi league lol

That would make sense.

Northern Irish roots links with Celtic and Rodgers, plus his experience - like with Hart's - would potentially prove very valuable for a season, at least.

I feel like the longer this goodbye drags out the more tainted his legacy becomes, rightly or wrongly. He just needs to put out a cheerio message rather than the stupid in between stage we are in where neither the club or him look good.
