Ayoze Perez

Ayoze Perez is ‘ready to terminate his contract’ with Leicester City, after he received approaches from Everton, Crystal Palace and Fulham in the summer.

That’s according to AS, who say the forward is now eyeing up a return to Spain after failing to get a move.

The newspaper say the Premier League is ‘close to losing one of its most talented players’ in Perez who ‘wants to leave England’ and return to his homeland.

He’s decided that his nine year stay in the Premier League will come to an end in the coming months and is willing to ‘break his contract’ with Leicester to achieve that.

That way any La Liga side interested in him would be able to sign him for free, with Perez also willing to ‘considerably reduce’ his wages to make a move happen.

Perez currently earns €4.5m per season, a figure he knows is within reach of very few Spanish clubs, so would have no problem accepting a proposal lower than that. His only condition is that he joins a team challenging for titles.

He was offered a new three-year deal by Leicester last year but turned it down because he ‘longs for Spain’ and believes now is the time for him to play in La Liga.

This summer Everton, Crystal Palace and Fulham all ‘sought his services’ but he rejected the proposals because he is only thinking of Spain and ending his time in the Premier League.

Everton were searching for a right winger like him throughout the window, while Fulham ended up signing Dan James. Crystal Palace didn’t sign anyone nor were they linked but it seems they were in the mix.

Perez wasn’t interested though as he’s hard focused on Spain where the strong and most recent interest has come from Real Betis and Getafe. The latter were even willing to sign him and let him leave next year. Betis couldn’t afford him due to salary cap issues.

Real Sociedad were another club who were interested but went for someone else to replace Alexander Isak and there was interest from Benfica, but he dismissed that.

With two months left to go until the transfer window opens, he is dreaming of leaving Leicester and being available on a free to start again in Spain in 2023.

Why on earth would we offer Perez a new three year contract? I know we are generous with contracts but that would be the most baffling yet.

We may have tried to get him to sign a deal on the understanding that he would move next year and we’d get a fee. With clauses in that restricted our exposure on sale.

but why on earth would he want to and lose a decent s/o fee on signing a new deal in Spain ??

He certainly played against Leeds as if he was dreaming.

Maybe he's one to let go early (in Jan) just to free up the wage bill a little, and find some squad space for 'refreshments'

Knows he has to take a pay cut to leave us but will only sign for one of the ones who could afford those wages anyway? Hmmmmmm.

It hardly sounds plausible. But then when you remember how the club is run nowadays, it seems believable.

Maybe the club got greedy after selling Maguire and Mahrez, and thought we'd make a packet from transfer fees if we got all first team players (which Perez was at the time) on good contracts. Not realising that we may not be able to sell those players, and so we'd get stuck with too much deadwood.

I'd imagine there would be few ready to terminate their contract under the current regime.

Frozen out, chucked under the bus, killing players confidence, letting players rot.

I couldn't blame any player for not wanting to be here.

Will his house in Houghton on the Hill be up for grabs?

We don't seriously pay this cnut 4.5 million a year?

30m to sign him and 22.5m euros over 5 years in wages. Rodgers first signing. Hindsight is always clear but even at that point we should have realized you can't let the guy anywhere near a transfer. Yet he still wonders why we can't just keep signing players he wants.

I think £30m is what Ashley stated.

I’ve been informed it’s closer to £18m by various people.

The story lost any credibility when it said
