Clever Fox Posted 2 November 2022 Posted 2 November 2022 If we perform as against Man City we should beat them. Though this is not going to be easy, We have 3 games in 7 Days. BR is going to have to rest players in all 3 games I think. It would be nice to see Iversen at least in the Cup game against Newport. Possibly rest Youri and Maddison in that game also. And bring in a few of the Development squad. A win against Everton and a Cup win against Newport and I'd take a draw against West Ham. Now that would be a good week before the World Cup. 3

We can definitely beat these if we play as we have in previous games, but that is all down to what Brendon decides & I'm afraid that I have no confidence that he will get it right 1 1

I haven't seen the whole team put in that level of performance for quit a while . We even created some good scoring opportunities but made poor choices at key moments. That can happen in games. But that's the level of effort you need from the players to win games, and it's clear the players are still playing for Brendan. I'm also more hopeful after reading his comments in the mercury today. Where he said we need to sign quicker stronger players who can play with the ball also. I just hope he delivers on it. 1

We are a lot better playing forward, quicker and more direct, totally the opposite of the Rodgers style of play. He does come out and say these things, hard to take him seriously, he will probably come out and say he was limited by the players available, but he chose to use this formation and his penchant for a back three, let us wait, and see where we go with this. 1 1

We can definitely beat these if we play as we have in previous games, but that is all down to what Brendon decides & I'm afraid that I have no confidence that he will get it right I don't think we will approach a game against Everton in the same way we did against Man City. Last season, on boxing day, a couple of thousand Leicester fans gave up their cheese and crackers to go up to Manchester to watch us play Man City. We were completely open and 4-0 down within 25 minutes. The game was over before it had even begun, and from 14 minutes into the match, it was effectively over and all those travelling Leicester fans were left shivering and shellshocked on the terraces knowing that their efforts had been for nothing. So last Saturday, Rodgers clearly didn't want a repeat of that. He said their gameplan was to stay in the match for 70 minutes and then see if they could get something in the final 20. The team played excellently, exactly as instructed, and put in a real shift. They played for each other and they played for the manager. Sure, it wasn't a free flowing match, but as a defensive performance it was immaculate apart from one error which gave away a free kick. It turned out to be a game of inches. KDB hit the post and scored with a worldie, whereas Tielemans hit the bar and missed with a worldie. Overall, it was a strong performance by the team who played exactly as they were instructed to do. In no way was it a poor performance, however it was a disappointing result as we went toe to toe with the champions and lost by the narrowest margin. Of course Rodgers isn't going to setup like that against Everton, and I fully believe that our recent resurgent form, defensive solidity, and attacking qualities will see us over the line. It seems the whole squad (and Brendan) have been humbled by the first 6-7 matches of the season and are on a real mission to put things right. We're going to win 3-0. 5
Daveb5569 Posted 3 November 2022 Posted 3 November 2022 I think that league needs to take priority this year not a long cup run. I would be putting out a second string side for the cup, need to focus 💯 % on getting out of the relegation zone as mentally this will be a boost to players and fans if we are out of the position while the world cup is on. 4

Wholesale changes needed against Newport if a 2nd XI isn't good enough to beat Newport they need binning off in the summer regardless of what division we are in next season. 2

It's never easy against a part time team.

I’d be going as strong as possible against Newport, probably just give Iversen a game. We know most of our back up players aren’t good enough, I wouldn’t even bother with them.

As someone said, if at our supposed level, if you can't beat Newport with our highly paid professional squad players then they don't deserve to be there. It's more about the professional approach to the game because the opposition players certainly aren't better.

The Everton and West Ham games are absolutely huge. 2
Unabomber Posted 3 November 2022 Posted 3 November 2022 Of all the teams in the league I would consider Everton the easiest to beat at their own place. Hopefully we go for it and get the result.

Maybe 1 or 2 academy players on the bench, and a few first team-ers thrown in. Probably see Evans as well. Right now, i wouldn't worry about fixture congestion next year. There are 3 games until Boxing day, and a big tournament in between that many of our players wont be attending. There is no need to go exceptionally weak at the moment, these players need games and confidence. Edited 3 November 2022 by Chelmofox 1

You stated how we chose to setup and why it made sense to limit them by staying resolute and disciplined but you then state we went toe to toe with them. Toe to toe was the 4-0 down in 25 minutes, an absurd decision to consider, Rodgers had seen how to approach Man. City as a team in our previous win against them, and yet still believed, being open and attacking them constantly was the right way to play them. That is what Pep and his team wants, what they keep moaning about, when teams have developed a "low block" against them. They should see it as a compliment, and stop crying that we made their lives difficult for 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon.

Make sure you're not clogging up the ticket queue if we make it to Wembley for this poxy cup Teams like Wigan haven't "disappeared" the Prem isn't the be all and end all and their fans will have memories to last a lifetime from a cup win. ARM1968 Posted 3 November 2022 Posted 3 November 2022 Has anyone said it? They must have. I can foresee fireworks.
OliLCFC Posted 3 November 2022 Posted 3 November 2022 If we play like we played against City then should be a comfortable win
