STEVIE B Posted 3 November 2022 Posted 3 November 2022 I admire the positivity, but we are dreadful away from home, Everton don't concede many either. Would take a point. 1

We are a lot better playing forward, quicker and more direct, totally the opposite of the Rodgers style of play. He does come out and say these things, hard to take him seriously, he will probably come out and say he was limited by the players available, but he chose to use this formation and his penchant for a back three, let us wait, and see where we go with this. Yes I agree we are better playing a quick counter system. Part of the problem is we're to lobsided with no RW. We also don't have pacy players who can transition quickly. Then the basic mistakes in possession don't help. It's one of the things which cost us against Man city. I think BR does want to get to a quicker system going but he needs to sign the players with those skill sets required. The proof will be in the signings we make in January to help us get there, Starting with a RW which will balance out the front line and taking the pressure of Barnes. Presently has to face 2 or 3 defenders because Teams know we have no real threat down the Right side. But as you say, we'll have to wait and see. 1

As someone said, if at our supposed level, if you can't beat Newport with our highly paid professional squad players then they don't deserve to be there. It's more about the professional approach to the game because the opposition players certainly aren't better. A few extra games in the league cup isn’t going to ensure we get relegated though. We should be able to field strong teams in the cups and league, especially with not being in Europe.

In all honesty, I think we are just too good a squad to get relegated, and the cups are our only real chance at Europe due to our poor start. Yes, it would be nice to get a cushion going into the World Cup, but this year is a good one to aim for the League Cup. The R16 is the first game after the WC ends, so a lot of the "big" teams will have been missing players in training, and will frankly not really care about it. I would take finishing 17th and being in the Europa Conference League (with another trophy. over finishing 12th. 8

moore_94 Posted 3 November 2022 Posted 3 November 2022 Brendan Rodgers Pre-Match Press Conference vs Everton Turned a corner? “We still have a long way to go. We are giving ourselves a platform in games. We are defending better and we want to continue with that.” Tielemans? “He’s a fantastic professional. Even though he is in the situation with his contract, he has never wavered in terms of what he provides the team. He has the know-how. I will continue to work with him while he’s here. We’ll see in the coming months.” Justin, Maddison, Barnes for World Cup? “It’s about doing whatever they can for Leicester City and then it’s up to Gareth. For all of the players, it’s getting to this period where they play their best football and stay fit.” Knudsen impact? “In terms of set-pieces, Lars has made a great impact. We’ve looked strong and solid and aggressive. That was the improvement we needed to make. That’s important. His work has been excellent. The defensive work within the structure of the team, it’s analysing the details around it. A number of our goals were about transition, and we've been able to close the pitch. The players feels more comfortable.” Ward? “It was always going to take time as Kasper had a legendary status here. Danny is starting to relax more. He's only going to get better.” Play style? “Manchester City is a unique challenge. Their the best possession team in world football. We limited them and felt we could have got something. Our next three games, we will go back to our normal ways, be on the ball, attack the game, be bold, and then look to defend well. Everton made a number of signings, freshened up the team, with some experience signings. They look a good team. We will have to be at our best.” Evans? “We’ll decide on that tomorrow. If it’s Saturday or Tuesday. It's been slower than we would have hoped.” Ricardo? “He’s working very well. It’ll be January for him. Mentally he’s doing really well.” Psychological impact of being in bottom three for WC? “If you have to look at the table for six weeks, it can play on your mind, but our plan is not to be in there." World Cup? “Through that period, there will be a mixture of a slight break for the players. We'll have a training camp and some games, so we’re firing for Boxing Day. Before that, we want to finish the best we can.” 1 3

My point is that we shouldn't have to put a full strength team out to beat these. Nice for Wigan's fans that saw it but Premiership survival is far more important to our club that one day in the sun. We've gone off track as a team somewhat but with proper management, we shouldn't even be considering relegation. Anything less than a decent cup run and comfortable mid table is a huge failure with this squad. 2

Absolutely we should I agree, we don't need to field the same unchanged side, we've got ample strength in depth for that game.

We know most of our back up players aren’t good enough, I wouldn’t even bother with them. We aren't going to win the tournament, I'd rather give ourselves as good a chance as possible of getting as close to six points as possible, if the back up ain't good enough an we lose to Newport so be it, I'd rather lose with a 2nd string then pick all the first teamers maybe win and they go out down the road to Liverpool or city's 2nd string. 1

Wymsey Posted 3 November 2022 Posted 3 November 2022 It would be good to see them (Everon) struggle again this season. It seems like a strange club behind the scenes; a mass amount of money pumped into them over the past few years with little progress made on the pitch. 1

RowlattsFox Posted 3 November 2022 Posted 3 November 2022 It would be great to take 4 points from these 2 away games, but don't really see us winning either. 2 teams that can bully us if they want too, West Ham in particular. 2

BR has got to rest players with 3 games in 7 days. He'll go strong against Everton and West Ham because we need the points. So Newport is perfect chance to play some of the Development squad. I'd go with something like this lineup. Assuming we're winning 2nd half then maybe give Evans and NDiddi a run out to prove themselves ready for WH. Iversen Albrighton Vesty Soyuncu Thomas Braybrooke Mendy Praet Perez Ignachio Maswanhise Subs, NDiddi, Evans Vardy. Alves Smithies I think the big boys are too busy with each other and Europe this season, So someone could slip through and win it with some luck in the draw. I think with one or two good signings in January that could be us. 1

Well it’s time the team put in their big boy pants on and Goni to this game fighting for all 3 points! There are no free lunches as they say. We are where we are because of a very bad start and it ain’t gonna change unless they fight for it. These games will be won by the team that wants it the most. will the real foxes stand up? Let’s see… 1

Supergray22 Posted 4 November 2022 Posted 4 November 2022 We are going to need to turn up for this one. We need a good start though. Keep the home crowd subdued and it will be a tight game. I can see a 1-1 or maybe nick it 0-1 or 1-2. Will be interesting to see if BR starts Praet or Cags again. My guess will be not and we will start with the familiar formation and faces. Possibly Daka instead of Vardy or bring the Daka/Nacho pairing on later when players tire and it opens up. 1
Hales Posted 4 November 2022 Posted 4 November 2022 Kdh shouldnt start, start Praet. He also worked well with Vardy so i'd start Vards and sub him for Daka second half. Would love Kel to come on too. He has to rotate a bit otherwise match fitness is not going to be consistant across the squad and then injuries will happen..... 4
OntarioFox Posted 4 November 2022 Posted 4 November 2022 (edited) Everton are a poor side but have a knack for spawny wins when they need them, unfortunately. I'd love for them to go down, but I think last year was the real chance for it to happen and they lucked out of it. That being said, I've seen enough since the low point of Palace at home to believe we're turning a corner, and I don't think the lads are going to let a narrow loss to Man City knock their confidence too much. We really need to win at least one of these last two before the World Cup to realistically be out of the bottom 3, and I fancy us to get it here. 1-3 win, Barnes, Daka, Vardy. The latter of whom will goad their fans with a Harry Enfield 'calm down, calm down' hand gesture after bagging to put the game to bed. Edited 4 November 2022 by OntarioFox 2
