Apparently, the "throat slash" action brought about a boycott by the players and Pearson which lasted a few years. They have made peace since and Stringer interviewed him not so long ago.

He was an excellent & very knowledgable commentator. He even used to read the news at weekends.

I can’t see how they can replace him with Emily Herbert. Good luck to her and she may have a good broadcasting career but at the moment she is not at the level you would expect from BBC local radio.

Yes he is the direct replacement for Chris Egerton but in terms of overall staffing it is Egerton out and Emily Herbert in.

What's going on with this lately? Have always listened to this on the way home after matches but it appears to have turned into the rugby show. Is the football playing second fiddle to rugby now since relegation?

As I said earlier in the thread, it is now a joint programme for football and rugby when both are playing at the same time - so after match will cover both.

I thought rugby was on DAB and football on FM when they clash?

It’s poor from RL, sport must be one of their biggest pulls and the cutbacks they’ve made will only drive away listeners, which will lead to further reductions in the sports show. They’re on a downward slope.

It’s all gone noticeably downhill recently.
The Thursday boot room podcast is now released before the broadcast. So it’s obviously prerecorded now.

Unfortunately Radio Leicester has no choice but to make these cuts. Give it a couple of seasons and there won’t be any live sport broadcast.

Owynn is inexperienced so can’t really moan too much but I don’t enjoy the commentary like I did with stringer. Pipes is the best one on it

Just stumbled across this thread but have to agree - good luck to any women in broadcasting but Emily lacks the football/Leicester knowledge to make the show worth tuning into when she’s on there… Owynn and Pipes are certainly worth the listen imo

On a slightly related note is there any way to get the FM stream for Radio Leicester via an Alexa rather than DAB?

 

My Dad got a free one the other day but when he sat down to listen apparently could only get the Tigers commentary.
