Germany 7 v 1 Brazil is the obvious one I can think of

Ecuador might regret not putting Qatar to the sword there. Opportunity for a 4-0 or 5-0 was on the cards and they just couldn't be arsed.

Can’t work out why it was ok for the BBC to show Russia’s opening ceremony with a number of shots of Putin but the Qatari one was deemed a no-no.

You can't tell from that picture but there are two Ecuador players challenging with the keeper. One is in the air and makes contact with the ball then the other one, whose legs you can see, touched the ball next and is offside because his right leg is behind the keeper. I think that's right anyway  ridiculous that's it's even been spotted but technically correct.

The BBC didn’t show the opening game in 2018. ITV did. 
 

To be honest I actually enjoyed the features they did on Qatari football and three Ecuadorian lads at Brighton

It is indeed the first time a host nation (or co-host) has ever lost its opening game of the World Cup (not necessarily The Opening Game of the tournament). Previously 16 wins and six draws. So it is a pretty decent stat.
