Having watched city for the best part of 50 years now ... I can say without any doubt ... this stadium and fans have no passion no anger no intimidating of the opposition team.. in a football sense ... other teams do not fear coming to the KP ... partly why we got relegated last season

What grounds do fans fear going to these days? 

 

Not really surprising is it when the game has been hijacked by billionaire businessmen and multi-millionaire players. 

 

Doesn't really feel like local pride is part of the deal anymore and it's not surprising is it.

Thing is, knowing the club there's every chance they'll bring clappers back for the remaining home games. I've already accepted the state of the club's reputation, which has been anything but reputable for years. The final part of last season should have put the argument to bed once and for all with the clappers, but in truth it was blatantly clear way before then. They simply do not contribute to an atmosphere to be proud of, instead the exact opposite.

It is genuinely not a hard place to come to. The clubs own making in a way. It's worth a few points over a season and we don't get them as a result.

 

The Leicester Fan TV point. He's copping a lot of stick for it but I think a lot of our fans would agree with him - this is the madness that's gotten to us now that we actually think clappers are the answer. It's laughable that it got to this point, but predictable and why I never wanted them.

The clappers started turning up on the regular at the West Ham game that marked the start of the great escape. There was a lot more atmosphere after that point, but that might have had more to do with the fact that it was a desperate situation, and the fightback had to start there, so there was a collective consensus amongst the fanbase that we had to do something, and it coincided with a big effort by the players as well. Pearson tweaked his wingbacks to make his back 5 formation more attacking, and a late King winner set the tone for a real shift in momentum compared to the previous home game against Hull.

 

So what we need isn't clappers themselves, but the collective realisation that we are in a sticky spot, and a real desire to try and drag the team over the line by making a din to encourage them. Clappers might be useful for the more silent parts of the ground, as it at least means they contribute something to make the overall noise level a bit more continuous around the bowl, but the most important thing is a consensus that we aren't all just going to sit there in our seats and do nothing to help while it unravels on the pitch in front of us!

Clappers were also a novelty, they coincided with our best ever run of form. In turn, thousands more people started signing and the claps probably did encourage a better atmosphere for a time. As we got worse, the number of singers dropped so we were left with clappers drowning out the chants. They're a one trick pony and the trick has been done, then tried a few more times yet.

 

The club are happy to pay 100s(?) of agency staff to put the clappers out, or to distribute them at the turnstiles, have thousands of bits of cardboard printed, distributed and binned - every home game.

 

However, safe standing is a bridge too far for them

Clappers are just another example of the dumbed down society we live in. Imagine someone suggesting this abomination as an aid to atmosphere back in the 70's/80's. They'd be Sectioned.

Don’t get me wrong I hate the clappers and wish they weren’t offered at all but you must be too young to remember these from the 70’s? They were everywhere and generated fake noise in much the same way!

The clappers are so counter productive. Creates a din which drowns out any chanting.  So many near me will use them as the lowest entry point to joining in, but it prevents anything meaningful getting going.

Good point that! Got banned in the Seventies as the Authorities thought they could be used as weapons by Hooligans. Remember making one in Woodwork Class as a project at School all those years ago.
