Are people saying NP as a serious punt or just nostalgia?

People still love him. He doesn’t have the coaching setup to cover his weaknesses now unfortunately. Why would he leave Bristol as well? They’re finally starting to tick (sort of).

He doesn’t have his badges (afaik)

You can still manage, you just pay the price.

Thomas Frank, Kompany and Carrick will not come here.

Frank - is already at a better run and performing club far ahead of us.

Kompany will see out the promotion with Burnley then have a go with them in the Prem. He is basically warming up to take Pep’s job.

Carrick is from the Middlesbrough area isn’t he? Probably quite comfortable right now being back in the North East and has got them right up the table. With Sheff Utd stumbling they have a good chance of 2nd and if not will have the playoffs. Similar to Kompany in having a job to finish.

The ‘but we can offer them loads of money’. They are all young and have their careers ahead of them. Why would they drop and run the successful jobs they are in to take the money and enter the mess we are? You can bet that post BR, Top will return to being trigger happy and not give any managers as much time so they have nothing to gain and everything to lose. They can all bide their time for better jobs to come up and yes, will earn the big money in due course.

Xabi Alonso would be a decent appointment.

Isn't he at Leverkusen? I was very impressed with what he did prior to going there.

I'd take Jon Dahl Thommason after the way Blackburn played against us. Really well organised, aggressive, forward thinking. Thought they pressed superbly.

Think he might fancy Blackburn's chances in the premiership more than ours in the championship 🤔

Amazing really that there are 3 better managerial options in the top 4 of the championship alone!

Kompany, Carrick and Thomason all look like better managers to be than Rodgers. I won’t include Heckingbottom in that as he seems limited albeit doing a decent job at Sheff Utd.

From the championship I’d have Mark Robins. Can see us going for him if we went down. The longer Rodgers is here the more likely that will be.

If we sack Rodgers (yeah I know fat chance), you know we won't have a De Zerbi style plan in place and it will be a choice from whoever applies and the usual suspects.

Marsch?

Hassenhutl?

Gerrard?

...a lot of people say that,  but I believe the club is more ambitious than that!!!

I’d take any of Kompany, Carrick, Tom Masson or Robins. First two are already out of reach and wouldn’t come. Tommasson if they don’t go up and Robins may consider it.

We need a manager with a character and personality.

Why is De Zerbi having such a success at Brighton. I read that Football journalist Guillem Balague has said that De Zerbi ...." Is 5'10 but when he walks into a room it is like 6'5 ....he looks bigger and has an aura and great personality".

De Zerbi's teams play with passion, he's more attentive to tactics, his training sessions are less rigorous physically but are about tactics whereas British managers are are known for having a more practical approach to training with greater emphasis on hard training... which may explain why we have so much injuries aswell.

...that is an interesting take on the processes behind clubs!!!

We were said to be not doing enough work in training under Puel (if I  recall) the players were delighted that we upped the physical level under Rodgers.

Surprisingly Rodgers states that his teams always finish strong at the end of seasons but so far we see them petering out each year. Pochettino tends to work his players excessively and most teams I imagine use double sessions as the norm now.

It would be interesting to see a team which works on conditioning and tactics as opposed to flogging their players, and see how they come through  a season.

IF Rodgers did go, and I'm not convinced he will. We need to be realistic of who we would get given our current position.

I do believe it would be a short term manager till the end of the season, which could arguably give us a better chance of getting a better manager long term. I don't believe anyone would leave their club to come here to fight relegation and I don't believe any of the big names that are available would risk the hit to their reputation.

I also can't see past someone with PL experience so having said that, I believe that we would be looking at one of....

Gerard

Benitez

Lampard

Lage

Hasenhuttl

Marsch

Hodgson

Allardyce

....with even some of them, hesitant to take a short term deal.

They are not ticking. They’ve just had 9 games unbeaten, a lot were draws, then yesterday lost to one of the worse teams in the division.

Also it’s “Bristol City” ffs.

I love Nigel but don’t want him back now. Move on. It’s as bad as when people used to call for O’Neill back.

Mark Robins has done a far better job at Coventry with less resources and, for large parts, not even a ground.

Mark Robins although different in demeanour would stink of when Southampton appointed Jones
