I don't understand why anyone wouldn't be positive about this appointment, I know it's not everyone's first choice but I believe whilst it has a large element of risk, it's the right choice for us at the moment.

 

It feels like a moment to take a risk, to create an opportunity, we've already been relegated so we are at such a massive low, it needs a massive uplift and a completely new voice to do that. Smith, Shakey and Co wouldn't have offered it and Parker wouldn't either. Potter and Hutter were never in the running let's face it, we are too low for them.

 

Do I know it will work? Of course I don't, nobody does but it feels like an opportunity to completely revamp the club which is exactly what we need. We need gutting from top to bottom and a fresh impetus that has been lacking for 12-18 months. I personally applaud the board for taking the risk on and I hope their bravery is rewarded. 

 

We've seen it with the likes of Burnley taking risks with Kompany and Arteta at Arsenal, it can take time, but patience can be rewarded. I hope the board back Enzo fully, particularly if times get tough, that's when he needs backing again, not sacking. This feels like a long term appointment and hopefully it is the one that takes us back at the first attempt. Parker and Smith would've been stop gaps until the inevitable sacking in the Premier League, assuming we got there.

It’s going to be intriguing to see who he brings in. Whether it’s young talent from Man City’s academy, taking advantage of the loan system, or whether he has some foreign gems lining up to come in.

I think it's a risk but I think it's one worth taking. As far as I see it we had 3 options. Someone with a big name rep but who's not good enough like Gerard or Lampard. Someone who is good enough at the level we are at but a low glass ceiling like Smith or Parker or what we've done. A risk who hasn't been tested but has potential, not only at this level but much higher. The likes of Potter and Hütter were always fanciful and never coming. 

 

At the end of the day, if he turns out to be not good enough like the Gerard, I'm sure the likes of Parker will still be available. If he turns out to be like Parker and get us to the prem but not any higher, we will then be able to look at the likes of Potter. 

 

I just hope we don't do what Parma done and ask alot but give him little. They wanted him to replace an entire team on a shoe-string budget, mould them into his style, imprint a culture and have them gel but they only game him 1/3 of a season to do it. We need to be more patient than that.

...this is a very prudent appointment.

 

We let players run down their contracts. We failed to sell big names. This cost millions and millions and millions.

 

On top of this, a large number are leaving when we need a bigger Championship squad.

 

If Maresca can loan Man City youth players we can--temporarily--compete again and look to reach the Premier League.

 

We must simultaneously replace those players with our own signings and academy players.

 

Then, in a few years, we could be in a good position financially and competitively.

Excited to see what he brings. As said, could be a disaster but could also be a very good appointment given time to implement some new ideas. Working alongside pep is a big plus for any coach and that has to be a huge positive for us. I think he'll try instill some of that playing style with us, we just need the personnel. Be interesting to see the players he brings in.
