Four years on his deal?

Feckin hell. The success of the deal pins on us being promoted. So everything goes great we get promoted and then we saddled with a borderline PL standard player for 3 years

Yeah but you need booting off the forum for this remember.

For what it's worth, I don't think he's a bad signing at this level, I just think we've been taken a bit to the cleaners on the fee and contract - which is exactly part of what got us into this mess. You're right though, it hinges on promotion.

People spouting this sort of thing at me would've been saying exactly this when we signed Vestergaard too.

If we get promoted having someone like Coady around the squad would be great for us to have in the first season back which would likely be a fight to stay up

Even then are we not able to sell him on or loan him out if we get promoted?

Great signing at this level. We've Needed leaders for years and he is one. Should be instant captain. Price is a lot but think he'll do well in championship.

Although overpriced this signing is far better value than what we are going to pay for winks.

Agree Wolves fans online seem to be happy there getting a big fee for him.....they thought he'd only go for 3 to 4 max

And lots of our fans swore blind we'd get £100 m plus for Fofana.

...it makes you wonder what happened to Wout Faes, as when he came he appeared to be someone to pick up the mantle and lead this group!!!

He has subsequently turned himself, in a very short time, into a one-man, Keystone Cops sketch.

Faes / Coady v Coventry...

Remember we paid £5.5m for Matt Mills when we were in the championship. A record at the time...

Are we in danger of building a proper, balanced team here? Delighted with this signing. Couldn't care less about the fee (especially if we go up this season), his character is what we've been desperately needed for a very long time. Wouldn't be at all surprised if he's made captain straight away, and will improve the other defenders playing next to him too.

So Everton had a 4.5m buy option on him but we've agreed to pay 7.5m?!?

What the hell

Everton had a 4.5m buy option after having already paid a few mill for taking him on loan

They would have paid for a loan fee on top of that, obviously we’ll never know if that makes the fee comparable.

Great signing.  We're paying for a defender who could easily still have 2-3 years left at the top level, maybe longer.  Huge experience and also played for our national team.

Yes please 🤝

Rudkin at it again. Being taken to the cleaners.

Equally you think we wouldn’t spend a bean last summer and here we are now spending £7.5m on a 30 yr old

...I suppose in the great scheme of things, what we need to do is quickly assemble our squad, so Maresca can begin to work with them!!!

If however it does come down to paying the extra million, to get the job done, and losing one or two million to get players out the door then we will have to do so.

What we have at the moment is a lack of time to put a lot of players in their place, and haggling endlessly here and here, only holds us back.

Happy with the signing, the price though is eh, was hoping we’d get him for £4-5 million.

You won’t see many Championship teams paying over £5 million for a player of that age.

4 year deal. Ffs. What's the need for that. If we get promoted this year he automatically becomes not good enough.
