I wish someone would sneak into Top's office and place a live counter on his desk that shows him second by second the amount of money we are paying players like BCDR who aren't anywhere to be seen. I want him to sweat every second of the day watching that counter tick up and up seeing how much money he is wasting by allowing the club to deviate from the blueprint that delivered us a decade of growth and success.

I reckon one more outgoing and we do a 'mutual agreement' with him and he ends up back at Fulham or maybe even Bristol City for a last hurrah.

What a duff deal that was.   No wonder our finances are in such a mess,  thanks to Rachel Rudkin.

Ryan Bertrand 2.0

Both shocking buys. Whoever thought of these, and sanctioned them, should be shot

I’d rather pay him more/ramp up the SO fee than give him 3 years but I’m just negative and should trust our successful hierarchy/recruitment/ability to shift players.

God so negative, of course it wouldn't pan out like this

They're not stupid obviously but a deal can be struck, there's some give and take. I'd rather limit our liability and pay a slight premium for it (and give an optional finally year extension) than be tied down. Quick players tend to have starker declines.

An Athletic article which shows take on data for wingers declining pretty rapidly after 30 https://archive.is/QgplP

I like him but he's 31.5 now,

End of 24/25  - 32.5

End of 25/26 - 33.5

End of 26/27 - 34.5

If by 25/26 he's just a bit part player than we'd rather not play we have another Bertrand-esque situation.

If it was a straight up binary choice of 3 years or no deal I think I'd opt for the latter.

God, negative nancy this guy

I’m ok with that as long as he doesn’t play for us again.  The only way Rudkin and his pals will learn is by taking a financial hit. I was worried he might go back in for Nacho Man

£248M over the last 3 summers hasn't done it, why should a few more quid on BDR? lol

As ever this is another case of zero information being released. We'll find out in a few years about an underlying issue or some sort of cover up, football is littered with them. If he'd actually been away with his country and offered an extended rest you'd expect a top, committed player to be straight back at it and wanting to make amends for last season not turning up randomly 3 weeks in.

Someone with his experience at this level should be a huge asset but he wanders round like one of those mercenary farts we made a habit of employing in the Levein and Kelly era.
