I'd hope they aren't being deliberately stupid, considering the circumstances. It could very well be that they don't fully know his condition, yet. A serious accident like that could involve immediate surgery or extensive investigation and no one yet knows his condition. 

 

Also, with respect to the condition of the car. If the fire service needed to cut any of it up to free him, it would make the state of the car look a lot worse after the event.

Somewhere in between. For them to sign him and expect him to be their main man immediately was ridiculous, he had 6 good months at Atalanta and he’s a young lad.
