Asked if he knew of Ward’s reputation in the stands, van Nistelrooy admitted: “No, I didn’t. What happens in recent years is something I don’t know. You (the media) can explain better and the people within the club can explain better. But still, it must be difficult for him to experience it.”

But it’s something van Nistelrooy should know. It is important for him to be aware that one of the players he picks could generate an adverse reaction from the crowd and damage the atmosphere to the extent that getting a result is less likely. That he didn’t know does not reflect well on his research of the City players, nor does it reflect well on the club, who clearly didn’t brief him.

Maybe such knowledge wouldn’t have changed his mind. Even if van Nistelrooy was aware of the risks of the crowd getting on Ward’s back, he may still have wanted to give every player a clean slate, he may still have valued above all Ward’s ability with his feet, which is better than Daniel Iversen’s.

The one pass on the ground he made outside of our box nearly got intercepted…

wow! That ha to be the quickest honeymoon period ever!

All of a sudden, my confidence in the new boss has vanished. Here are a few reasons apart from Ward thing

1) why does he only have 1 of his own staff?

2) the side he picked yesterday v Wolves had holes in all over the show - despite having 2 holding midfielders. The full backs were being asked to do too many jobs without any coordination from midfield

3)!the only creative midfielder was clearly told to play backwards

4) why could he not see that Ayew is out for himself & actually do sthg about it?

5) cd he not see Steph despite being the only bright spark has a massive attitude problem?

God help us at Anfield!

Benefit of the doubt has to prevail but did anybody know what we were trying to achieve yesterday? I mean seriously zero identity at all. Are we really THAT bad?

I don't think so but time is running out.......

I still think RVN is a better manager than Cooper.

Both were way down on my list in the summer, and RVN was low on the list when Cooper was sacked.

I still think/hope he can turn it around. He’s inherited a mess. If Ruud had been appointed in the summer with a transfer window, a fit squad at the start of the season, we would 100% be in a better position now than what we are. Cooper was the brain fart.

Fair points and it makes it even more imperative that our Manager gets the best or near best side out on to the pitch, that they are trained correctly, that tactics are fully communicated and understood, the team are motivated etc

What he did yesterday was complete and utter insanity

Absolutely. I hope we wasn't trying to make a discipline point to some players by leaving them out, because we couldn't have afforded to do that

Wow, if a GK is rated purely on his ability with his feet, then we are fvcked, may as well put any outfield player in goal.

I can't speak.

This just tells me he had done absolutely zero research on the club or the players before getting the job and none since he got it

You would think managers would want to know if the fans have serious issues with certain players

Exactly right. If I was lucky enough to be a manager I would want to meet with some fans to get some feedback from a different perspective. Especially given where we are in the table. Top clubs possibly not so much need. That might be the problem...RVN has been used to a career in the stratosphere.

Jakub was in an U21's as part of his rehabilitation back to full fitness.  Has it not occurred to you that maybe the conclusion from him and the staff is that he wasn't fully ready yet? He might still be a few weeks away from being ready. Being in the warm up doesn't mean he is being dropped. I fully expect Jakub to be no 2.

Iversen we've spoken about a lot. He's not featured at this club at all since we were relegated. I think there is a behind the scenes reason for that.

Just further clarify on this, Jakub wasn’t cleared by the medical staff to play… the choice was between Ward and Iversen.

24hours later, he is the problem. Against Wolves and Newcastle.

Against Newcastle, he went like for like despite missing 3 of his midfielders.

Yesterday he’s had 4 weeks and they are in no way motivated on organised. Twice players just let Wolves players run off them,

I give it 3 months and he will either quit or be told to go. Rudkin and Top will have 3 managers in a season and get away with it again because of the clappy cuckold bastards in our fan base.

First one went straight under him didn’t even.try

I think RVN will keep us up shown in his subs he knows what’s required don’t think we will see Ayew or Ward start again.

Mcateer was a miss against Wolves a player he has brought into the team.

and he can’t help how weak Justin and Kristenten are

The problem with that is your average fan is an idiot. You'd have to go to the supporters club to make sure you got some sensible ones.

Another problem with Ward is that he might have cost the manager his bounce (Newcastle aside). That is massive.

He should never wear the shirt again. Simple as that. However, do we risk a half fit Hermansen against the best side in Europe? I say throw that game and throw Ward to the dogs. Why risk Hermansen in a game like that when he’ll be busy? Although we all know Iversen is a better her than Ward, even during the relegation season there was an improvement when he came in.

Ruud has never been in a battle like this in his short managerial career. We’re certainly doing to see what he’s made of.

Based on what? Four performances haven't been great. The West Ham game was better but even still a lack of finishing by the opposition let us off. The last two games have been dreadful and we haven't even scored a goal.

Awful day. Should've sacked Taylor there and then.

It was said they weren’t in the running?

I don’t think officially it was ruled out but I may be wrong , a few people in the know suggested they had turned it down though , especially Moyes
