Quite. Going down Town and going down the City are two very different things - as everyone from Leicester knows only too well!

It's what's makes us different from Manchester. They call themselves 'City' but we are 'The City'.

Only downside to this is we’ll now be a top player franchise club and we’ll have to change our name to

‘Van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City™️

just like ‘Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle™️

and

‘Frank Lampard’s Coventry City™️.’

I think after Enzo left so suddenly and with the points deduction hanging over us we were hoping that Cooper would prove us wrong about negativity regarding his appointment. Pre season and performances so far in the season just provided more darkness than light. No guarantees that Ruud can turn things around but at least there is a charisma that hopefully can translate to points and improvement

One of the first of these I remember was 'Glenn hoddle's Swindon' 🤢

A ruthless striker and let's hope he is the same way with the squad. Too many players were on the jolly up last week and I think they need to be brought down a peg or two.

Just the whole feeling compared to the Cooper appointment is different. WhatsApp groups pinging with captions. This thread. I mean there is even a video - I can’t remember if they did one for Cooper.

This is what a new manager appointment should feel like.

Be good Ruud - you’re too cool not to be

I'm actually quite excited by this and have become more so as the week has gone on.

It would have been very easy for a former player of his stature to get more or less any job he wanted early doors, just down to name recognition. We've seen how that has gone for Gerrard and Lampard as they got jobs too big too early, and they now manage Al-Ettifaq and Coventry respectively.

Instead, RVN has gone down the route of learning his craft under experienced managers, developing players and building a tactical style over a decade. His first full-time job resulted in two trophies over a season; compare that to Enzo, whose career has basically been kickstarted by us after a torrid spell at Parma in Serie B.

He's then come to Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and learned the Premier League inside out before taking charge of a desperately struggling side after Ten Hag got the sack and improving them pretty much overnight.

I suspect he'll want attacking football from the off. We'll concede a few and, on occasion, get dryhumped. But against the teams down there with us and out-of-form sides just above us? We'll get points with a confident and aggressive approach. I also feel optimistic that he'll develop players already here as well as be useful in the transfer market, as he'll surely be backed in January.

Could it go wrong? Definitely. He's inexperienced and he's only used to managing teams who consider anything below European qualification to be a failure and he has a very different job on here. But you get the sense he has a high ceiling and there is optimism about this appointment that wasn't there with Cooper, whose realistic high point would have been scraping 17th.

Got a good feeling about this...

(until he pisses off for a bigger club at the end of the season)
