I mean it's probably a good thing that James thinks we're better than we are. If he was correct in his estimation of us, we'd have no chance of convincing him to stay beyond his loan.

But yeah, delusional.

I won't be surprised next season James ends up at Wrexham. Rennes may decide to cash in and Wrexham may spend big to get him. Just imagine missing out on a player to Wrexham.

We all know we have players who think they are better than what they are.

Worrying that a player has now come out and said this, as it must be the feeling in the dressing room.

So we are all pilling in on Jordan James now? Jeeze.

Who is piling on? It's an utterly ludicrous comment to make from JJ (a loan player) however you look at it...it benefits no-one saying things like that!

Would rather James came out with the boring cliches of taking one game at a time and see where we are.
Instead imo it came across far too arrogant and that we’re too good for this league.
Clearly atm we’re not.
Winning 3 out of 15 should suggest you say as little as possible and keep it to the bare minimum in interviews.

Classic.

I think fair play to him, its usually what youd want to hear. Although it does need to be backed up now over the next run of games. 45 mins against a Sheff Utd team that had decided to set up hammocks on their 18 yard box doesnt prove anything.

I also understand the reaction to it given we've seen these players let us down for 3 of the last 4 seasons and obviously theres the comparisons with Madders' comments.

I think he truly believes what hes said though, hopefully it gets through to the rest of the squad and we see them putting in the same kind of shift we see from JJ most weeks.

Amazing, isn't it? Maybe people would be happier if he was saying, "To be honest most of us are bricking it about relegation. We're not really sure whether we've got it in us to stay up."?

You're normally very measured on here.

There's a good middle ground between 'we are scared, and not sure we've got it in us to stay up' and 'We've got PL players we'll be fine, relegation talk is madness'

If some of these players didn't act like they thought they are better than us and too good for this league then he'd probably be let off. Coupled with the fact this is the similar group of players that have seen us relegated twice in three seasons.

In all seriousness though the quotes are probably fine at most other clubs. Unfortunately we're a club where talk is so cheap it's totally meaningless. We've had the same shit peddled to us for 3 or 4 years "we need to improve", "we'll work harder", "back stronger" blah blah blah. It doesn't wash for the majority anymore.

The 'we've got PL players' quote is just one small snippet from the interview. If you read all of his quotes, they do not suggest complacency at all—just a determination to put things right. I actually quite like him saying things like, "I won't let that [relegation] happen." That's the attitude we want.

There is nothing in that interview that suggests he's complacent, and more importantly for us he doesn't play like he's complacent either. We need more characters like James.

Maddison's comment came after a shocking defeat at the bottom club in a disagreement with a journalist. This is clearly part of a measured interview. If the management of the club had any backbone, they would tell the squad to put more in and prove him right.

His performances and application earn him the benefit of the doubt and I'm inclined to think those quotes are born of sincere belief and determination rather than flippancy and complacency, but yeah, not massively reassured by our supposed Premier League quality and "the leaders in the group" at this point. He is at least one of the players you sense can be relied upon to back up this sort of talk on the pitch.

best thing for them to do is say nothing - but then its we've not heard from a single 1 of them no player-fan relationship
ok
best thing they should say is we are 5hite its all doom & gloom & we are heading for lge 1 - but then its bunch of wet lettuces with defeatest attitudes
ok ok
best thing they should say is that it does hurt them & they haven't given up & will fight - but then....

If he didn’t fancy them this season, why is he going there next year when he could probably get a move up a division lmao

In the context of the rest of the interview, it makes sense and it's good to hear fight and determination from him. He's probably the only player in the squad who has a ton of credit in the bank because his actions on the pitch back up saying this kind of thing.

It does make me uncomfortable the reference to Premier League quality though. We don't have that, aside from JJ himself, and perhaps Fatawu. Nobody can now look at that squad after 2 relegations in 3 years and say that it's Premier League quality. And if in the dressing room they think they are...oh dear.

I agree, but I think you have to understand that in Jordan's view some our premier league players. They are just not showing their quality. Some have played a higher level, even Soumare played abroad and was good, they have premier league ability but a poor attitude.

I won't be calling out Jordan on this interview, it's the most passion we've seen from a players interview. It's bullish, it has a sense of determination and that is what we want.

But this shouldn't be coming from a loan player. He is showing that even if he's temporary a LCFC player he has work ethic and pride in himself. To play to the best and keep trying to turn it around. That is premier league attitude.

Even though you know you won't be here next season you can have the correct attitude.
