Football365 did an article on the six managerial changes this season and how they have fared. Of the seven worst performing, we employed two, were close to appointing another and two of the remaining four are reported to be our preferred candidates now.

This sums up our board perfectly. Utterly clueless.

The other issue is the tools we give the manager, we give them a spoon to dig through concrete!

I heard various different figures for that, in the 3-6m range, but either way, I wouldn't argue with you. I understood the logic, but it certainly isn't what I would have done. I mean, just to clarify, I think they're both crap.

Unless Cooper suggested those players as squad fillers and had better targets he never got

The longer this plays out, the chances of another poorly organised pre season increase daily. We got away with it in 23/24 but it was defo a factor this season

You mean we continue to not learn our lessons and repeat the same mistakes over and over again with a reliance on luck over due dilligence to see us through. Crazy times 😅

You may well be right. Realistically, Cooper saw that we needed a replacement for KDH and another more conventional #10, and when he saw the budget decided that cheap back-up options for the wingers was the way forward. Ideally I'm sure he'd have asked for at least one new first choice winger.

Both of our first choices - that we'd spent handsomely on the year before - had difficult pre-seasons and poor starts to the season, hence the bargain basement options ended up getting more game-time than we'd have liked. I don't necessarily agree with that, and I let out an almighty groan when we made those two signings, but I don't think the decision-making from the manager's point of view was anything exceptionally daft. His instruction to the recruitment team was 'I need wide players'. They responded that they needed to be cheap, so Cooper added the stipulation that they have good PL experience, and Glover and co. came up with Ayew and Reid. It turns out they weren't the best suggestions ever, and the boss should perhaps have said 'go back and try again', but that's been the nature of our recruitment under every manager, including Enzo, since the Puel-Macia years. Sadly it also applied to our replacement for KDH.

I still think that by harping on about Reid and Ayew we're losing sight of the real reasons for our plight. It wasn't a couple of bargain buys who ended up getting a bit too much exposure. It was financial mayhem, pending deductions, budget restrictions, years of poor recruitment, unsuitable managerial appointments and a lack of professionalism by many of the regular playing staff. Ayew and Reid may be symptomatic of some of that, but so are many other things.

Leicester draw up three-man shortlist as axe looms on Ruud van Nistelrooy amid nightmare season that has seen Foxes relegated from the Premier League

11:30, 02 May 2025, updated 13:30, 02 May 2025 By TOM COLLOMOSSE

No decision has been made yet on the future of Ruud van Nistelrooy

Leicester have been relegated with five Premier League games to spare

Leicester are actively considering replacements for Ruud van Nistelrooy as they seek to finalise a decision on who will lead their bid to win an instant return to the Premier League.

The Dutchman has overseen a disastrous run of results since replacing Steve Cooper last autumn, meaning the Foxes will play in the Championship next season.

Though they have yet to make a final decision on Van Nistelrooy’s future, Mail Sport understands targets have already been sounded out by intermediaries, with Danny Rohl, Russell Martin and Lee Carsley among the names considered.

Mail Sport revealed last November that Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl was a surprise name on the shortlist when Cooper was dismissed.

Though he was not deemed experienced enough at the time to take the reins, Leicester have been hugely impressed by the job the German has done at Wednesday.

He steered the club to safety last season in his first senior role – despite inheriting a team that looked certain to drop straight back into League One when he took over.

Ruud van Nistelrooy's future remains uncertain after Leicester City were relegated

Danny Rohl has been on Leicester's shortlist after impressing with Sheffield Wednesday

Replacing Steve Cooper with van Nistelrooy did not stop Leicester from being relegated

This term, the 36-year-old has kept the Owls well clear of the lower reaches of the table.

The one snag for Leicester, who are in a difficult financial position, is that Rohl has a significant compensation clause in his contract, unlike Martin.

But he is known to have impressed Foxes recruitment chief Martyn Glover when both were working at Southampton.

After such an embarrassing season, there is expected to be a reworking of Leicester’s structure, which may see Glover taking a more central role.

Until now Jon Rudkin, a firm ally of chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, has been an all-powerful director of football but has been targeted this season by angry supporters, who blame him for Leicester’s slump.

Asked about his future ahead of Saturday’s clash with Southampton, Van Nistelrooy said: ‘I've said many times before I've been proactive in conversations in February, March and April with the board and chairman.

'They know where I stand and I'm looking for alignment. Moving forward you have to be aligned.

'That intention is there 100 per cent. We are all hoping to find out soon.

'The quicker the better, it's in the best interest of the club.

'But no news so far.’

Aaaaah yes that'll do it, give Glover more responsibility despite our appalling period under his tenure and shun any significant change that is clearly so badly needed.

Basically, give the impression that we've taken things away from Rudkin, but they were never 100% his in the first place.

I also love that we viewed Rohl as not experienced enough in November and then employed Ruud.

I think you're being incredibly generous to Cooper there.

I think he wanted Prem experience above all else.  Reid and Ayew weren't signed as back ups.  They were Cooper picks, Ayew is a Cooper player, they have history.

Don't forget coopers shit tactics of getting the wingers to tuck in and to rotate our totally unsuitable full backs as wide attacking options, thus, no need to have wingers with pace.

Cooper knew what he was doing, sacrificing any semblance of flair or creativity (Fatawu, Ricardo...) in favour of experienced journeymen duffers.

Realistic targets are constantly moving goalposts.

I know we had the famous “list”, but honestly I can’t see any of them coming to us.

Some obscure names from the continent have been mentioned, and I can’t say much about them because I don’t really know much about those leagues. I’d certainly rather take a punt on one of those than the usual tripe we get linked with though - Dyche, Martin, Farke.

of the realistic domestic targets, Rohl, mousinho, Muslić, and maybe wellens and challinor would be the ones I’d have on the shortlist.

Still salty we didn’t get corberan when we could, and many more before him.

the dreamland box office appointment for me last summer was sarri, I think this summer it would be ange for me.

Admittedly it extends beyond Glover's tenure but dreadful recruitment has been at the core of our demise. Giving him greater responsibility is not the answer to our problems

Exactly this. They need to move Rudkin away from the footballing side and get a new fresh face in. I'd be happy with Rohl but not with the structure above. It's an advantage that he's worked with Glover before, but we need a Pearson style structure change in the coaching, analysis and fitness side.

But above that needs a fresh and talented face in there to drive a new era for the club. But alas I feel that is a pipedream
