Claudio Fannieri Posted 6 May 2025 Posted 6 May 2025 quite an interesting article, wouldnt be my top choice but I would be more than happy if we did appoint him. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c983w3d6w7jo#:~:text=sack head coach-,Cleverley

In the first half of the season he got them playing some lovely football, especially at Vicarage Road, they had the best home form in the league at one point. Throughout the season he has given numerous young talent a chance. He improved the likes of Kwadwo Baah and Mattie Pollock, gave their 19 year old striker Mamadou Doumbia a chance and he started to excel. He revitalised Imran Louza to the point where Louza actually won their Player of the Season award. Their form dropped considerably in the second half of the season, but one of their most influential players in Baah got injured, while he wasn’t backed in the January transfer window, they were in desperate need for a striker especially, yet the Watford hierarchy didn’t give him one. He has been hung out to dry by a board that is shitter than ours. A disgraceful sacking, would happily take a chance on him at Leicester. 5 1
Popular Post AjcW Posted 6 May 2025 Popular Post Posted 6 May 2025 I want whatever style of play Inzaghi has got cooking at inter to be honest. Fast as ****, not afraid to play it long and get it up to thuram for him to lay off to midfield/wingers… relentless press. Yes please. 7

Popular Post kingfox Posted 6 May 2025 Popular Post Posted 6 May 2025 What Watford’s ceo said about Cleverley two months ago, now they’ve stabbed him in the back. The type of guy who wouldn’t be afraid to give the likes of Nelson, Alves, Monga and Evans a chance. 6

The Horse's Mouth Posted 7 May 2025 Posted 7 May 2025 Cleverley done a great job there, they should be around relegation really. Don’t mind it as a bit of a punt but I do want someone with more of a track record
fox_favourite Posted 7 May 2025 Posted 7 May 2025 @Super_horns what are your thoughts on the Cleverley situation?
Jon the Hat Posted 7 May 2025 Posted 7 May 2025 I like Cleverley, but I would say at 35 he needs some experienced support, including a director of football who isn't hated by a large part of the fan base. If he gets that, then I dont see why not.
ClaphamFox Posted 7 May 2025 Posted 7 May 2025 Would Cleverley’s name even be mentioned if he hadn’t played for us? Does his brief record as a manager alone qualify him for the job? 3

I don’t think being a ex player is the driver, I just think it means naturally supporters take a more of an interest in their career, I would be more than happy to see Ritchie Wellens given an opportunity as manager, not because he is an ex player but because he is doing a bloody good job. Likewise in the case of Tom Cleverley I think we probably take more note of how he is progressing and how he has done, hence people see and perhaps know a little more about the style of play, how he promotes academy players and how he has done overall a pretty decent job in challenging circumstances. Just to put a bit of context to it, he finished 2 places and 1 point off the very highly rated Danny Rohl. Rohl has a win percentage of 38% and 1.4 points per game whilst Cleverley has a win percentage of 34% and 1.3 points per game. So not much between them when you take into account budgets, ownership etc. So when you look deeper into it you can see Cleverley, given he likes to play academy players, could be a pretty decent fit at our club. 2

I think he'll be better going somewhere else. A more stable club that will give him time and space to develop and allow him to make the odd mistake. Next season, the fan base will be wanting us to challenge and I don't think he's ready for that pressure just yet. It could damage his fledgling career. Is he ruthless enough for what we need as a rebuild? I'm not so sure. I like him, don't get me wrong, but I think this maybe a step too far. We need a Pearson esque clearout and rebuild. I don't think Cleverley is that person
Gloria Posted 7 May 2025 Posted 7 May 2025 Cleverey's sacking is a little reminiscent of Rosenior's at Hull. One huge thing in the 'for' column for us , is that he's FREE! 🤑

LFEFox23 Posted 7 May 2025 Posted 7 May 2025 Surely people aren't being serious about Cleverley because he got Watford playing ' some nice stuff'... This club needs a total reset from top to bottom (literally)... All playing staff, all coaching staff, the board We need the right person for sure, not some in experience apprentice! 3 1

I couldn’t disagree more. Manning seems like to me a manager that’s very good for mid table Championship clubs (like we see at Bristol City) where he gets the most out of his resources without developing an ideology or style of play to build upon. People take the piss out of Russell Martin but he genuinely has the potential to be a real top manager when you look at the way he develops players and teams. It’s just whether or not he can change the mentality of some of his sides and get them to become more rounded.

What experience did Nigel Pearson have when he came to us 1st time around? We also cannot be relying on just the manager and his staff to completely rebuild us as it requires more above them to align and support the process. The likelihood of thst all happening remains to be seen but the biggest priority from our next manager is having the bravery to bring through and use our academy players. Cleverley therefore is not the worst shout in the world. 2
