While it is thought contact has been made with Martin's representatives, there have been no formal discussions with Leicester's bosses over the details of any deal.

Rohl has a buy-out clause at Hillsborough which is thought to reduce by 50 per cent if a Championship club wishes to employ him rather than a Premier League club.

Russell Martin ain’t my first choice by a long way, and yes he had an horrific time of it in the premier league with Southampton, but we are going to be back in the championship, he is still only 39 years old

so his potential ceiling is still pretty high, hopefully we will benefit from him learning from past mistakes and he brings a style that is not just possession based but also durable and effective.

He is one who will bring through younger players so it at least makes sense that we can build on our academy prospects.

As I have said not my preferred option but given where we are, it makes some sense and he is available, and it isn’t a massive step change away like it would have been appointing someone like Dyche.

I am luke warm to him which I suppose is better than being ice cold which is where i am with Dyche. If appointed I will back him and hope he is successful.

Wayne Rooney “is still only 39 years old

my point being his age has nothing to do with anything if you are bad you are bad

Might be correlated to how often I’ve found myself Googling Lucy Pinder, but I’m starting to think this might be a good idea 🤔

Never employ a manager whose surname could be his first name, in this case, Martin Russell. By the same criteria I would not have Gerard Steven.

What about Little Brian?

He finished 4th and went up through the playoffs with the 3rd favourites for promotion once.

I don’t think that means he is proven.

Plus a 12 point deduction or more on his points talley sees him fortunate to make the play offs

Agree with completely, it would have been criminal to not get promoted with the squad they had.

And I guess Corboran hadn’t given us any sign he would come here.

People need to remember that our reputation is rightly in taters, and it’s a gamble coming here.

At the time coberan would have come. Obviously not now.

Little is not a Christian name, it's an adjective. He's happy in Jersey by all accounts. My simple criteria would also rule out Rooney Wayne.

Former Southampton boss Martin is the favourite to take over and has been prominently linked to the position.

If he were to arrive, a move for Swansea centre-back Harry Darling would make sense.

Darling, out of contract with the Swans this summer and so available on a free transfer, has twice been signed by Martin, first for MK Dons and then for Swansea in a deal worth more than £1m.

The 25-year-old is confident in possession, fitting Martin’s preferred style, and ranks highly for progressive passes and for carrying the ball out of the back-line.

He’s an aerial threat in the box too, and finished this Championship season with five goals and three assists in 39 outings.

A new contract is on the table for Darling at Swansea, where he is managed by former City left-back Alan Sheehan, with the Welsh club’s director of football Richard Montague describing it as a “strong offer”.

But the temptation to play under Martin again would perhaps be a strong one. After signing for Swansea from MK Dons in 2022, Darling said: “I was with (Martin) at my last club and we've stayed in contact. I love working with him.

“I know the way the manager plays so it was just a case of getting the deal over the line. I just can't wait to get started.

“Although I'm a ball playing centre-back, my first job is to keep clean sheets, defend well and do that for the team. If I can do that bit first, then goals are just added extras.”

Martin felt at the time that the defender had the potential to reach the top. He said of Darling: “He’s very young and hungry and he possesses all the attributes you need to play at the very top, in my opinion, and it’s up to us to help him unlock those now.

“He’s got athleticism, mentality, technical ability and, first and foremost, he’s a great character.”

He's a vegan n'all isn't he. Will be in the Blue Boar asking for a cheese and onion cob without the cheese. Makes me sick.

Buddhist also, Top must love him

Linked with a player who is out of contract and has played under Martin twice before but we won’t have made a decision yet.

I'm just wondering what the record is for consecutive relegation - promotion is. I think Martin can help us secure that record. Woo Hoo !

That'd be a vegan cheese and onion cob, or an onion cob.

Northampton in the 60s rise and fall must be up there

Struggling to understand why people think we'd be relegated again with Martin in charge.

I know he isn't a popular appointment, but there is no logic in thinking we'd get relegated from the Championship purely down to him managing us and his style of football that you couldn't also say about any other manager being appointed.

He's basically Enzo, but without the inventive patterns of play, sexy accent or incredible outfit on first visit to Seagrave.

Enzo and inventive?
