How many times did we try and fail to find a right winger?  We bought Vestergaard when Fofana was injured.  Not good enough so we bought Faes, not good enough...  Ward to succeed Schmeichel.  Not good enough, had to buy again.

It's a common theme, the trouble is, we are rarely able to sell the failures

 

 

Our modus operandi seems to be buying players for good money that fail that eventually leave on a free after running their contracts down. A double whammy as you get stung my the inflated transfer fee and then fail to recoup any losses paying a player wages that he wouldn't get at any other club.

 

I can forgive a signing like Daka as he was highly rated and untested in the big leagues but Ward and Skipp we knew everything about them as not good enough PL players who were mid 20's and had failed at their previous clubs, unforgiveable signings as we knew everything about them and the chickens have come home to roost making too many lazy signings.

I would argue you go slap bang in the middle and mix youth and experience, but get rid of the big problems such as Soumare/Faes etc. If that team makes the playoffs, its a success. A year later, that team can go on and win the Championship and have a much better stab at the PL a year later.

Yes, but as already been posted, they played their reserves virtually, we went full strength.

Getting promoted is the number one priority. The financial benefits outweigh anything else. So playing the strongest team will be the way, with youth players playing when we can afford to do so. Different story though the following season as the high wage deadwood will be gone, and we’ll be in a far far healthier place financially, even if relegated, as is likely.

Think he must have been. From what I can remember (due to the fog) qpr played well from an attacking sense but were poor at the back. Passed the ball around well but dangerously. Sounds familiar.

If Cifuentes is good at finding raw (I.e cheap) talent from Scandinavia, as was suggested earlier on here, then he might have enough influence on the signings for us to get in a gem from that area.

They also basically played their reserve side in that game whereas we went much stronger.

Yes.  The same guy who has 5 goals in his first 11 games for the USA national team and the guy who asked to be excused from the concacaf so he could focus on his transfer  to Europe. But he was forced to play in the tournament.
