Initially I thought that it may be a good idea, lower league, had some success at Southampton, and has a clear style of play. However, when you actually break it down, he has had no real success bar Southampton, he is incredibly arrogant, properly believes in his own nonsense and is even more stubborn than Enzo, but not even half as good as Enzo. 
 

At this time we need an adaptable, strong leader….. not a space cadet who probably doesn’t even care if it goes wrong because he is getting paid a wedge. 
 

It wouldn’t surprise me if he gets paid more than most of the outfield players at this level bar his own team. 
 

It just Prost proves yet again they don’t get it……

Can’t see who realistically would - Blackburn or Watford possibly might have but they are sorted. Maybe Getafe in Spain or Nantes in France but wouldn’t see it either.

Genuinely can't understand why any clubs would want him. His style of play is dead and he's shown 0 ability to adapt in the roles he has had. It's not like his record was anything to crow about when his style was in fashion.

 

It definitely will not work in League 1, I'm absolutely certain about that.

You make a good point about Cardiff maybe if Leicester can get in the players Martin wants it might actually work but have we got faith in that being done properly maybe this is where Mccarron comes into it. Or am I being a tad optimistic for this to happen?

One thing is for sure, we do not want another miserable season and if it is Martin we have to get behind him, as booing and having a go before a ball is kicked won't help at all. If we win the first two games 3-0 he will be a god

They were bullied out of appointing him last time (mainly by those heroes at Bournemouth away) and we know they aggregate sentiment on social media etc.

 

Need to kick the anti Martin content online up a gear if we don't want him in the absence of any opportunity to voice it in person.

What that doesn’t say is that we lost that game against Gillingham so the goal was simply for his own personal highlights reel. 
 

What Southampton fans are saying is basically the same as what we said to Swansea fans, though we had the benefit of being his first club and presumed he’d iron out his stubbornness. He hasn’t. He may do well with you initially if you sign him up, but eventually it’ll get old, his comments will get grating and the ridiculous mistakes will start mounting up.

I think we should be looking to play a klopp like style, high press, high tempo rather.

 

People seem to think you are a possession or counter attacking side, you can be both.

 

Some of our best football under Enzo was on the counter.

You can go down the road of the nuances in style/system, but at the end of the day, the key principle is that this board clearly want a manager that will dominate possession.

 

After experiencing Maresca, it’s no surprise imo that this board clearly love the likes of Russell Martin, you can add the Graham Potter obsession in the mix too.

We saw under Maresca that it’s doable. Whatever we think of some of these players nowadays, specific signings like Hermansen, Winks, Mavididi and Fatawu were absolutely crucial for Maresca’s system. 
 

We have to go down the same road if Martin is appointed. 
 

But as I said in my post you quoted, you’re relying on pretty much a 10/10 transfer window to make it work.

The game has moved on from this idea, possession is the best way to win games. It only works if you have exactly the right players for it. Without a ball playing keeper, centre backs and midfielders. It all fall apart because your asking players to do something they aren't comfortable with. Mistakes happens and then the fans turn, your toast.

We're in League One and Top and Rudkin still want us to play like f***ing Barcelona.

Totally agree. Issue we have is that the players who may be suited to it are the ones all on rotten sums of money / attitudes and will have to be moved on, and we don’t have a ball playing goalkeeper at the club (unless Vieites is.)

With our financial situation the best thing to do would have been to build a squad of more direct players and scrappers, a bit like Hull did this season in the championship. At complete odds with whatever our board are doing.

Trouble is they will be looking at that thinking. We wanted to appoint him last summer you complained look what happened.

Think this is a lot further down the road than Percy is willing to make out right now. If Nixon’s right and they’re trying to gather his backroom staff then it’s probably pretty close. Only saving grace is he might not be willing to take the job on if the club can’t get in the staff he wants.

I know we are at a low ebb, so can't be picky, but really? That guy? 

 

He would have a massive job on his hands to win over a skeptical fanbase.

 

Any hiccups in the first few games, the crowd will be straight on his back.

 

I think this will end in disappointment and  recrimination.
