That stat about Netherlands not losing a World Cup game in 90 minutes since 2006 is wild. Even then they’ve only lost one in 120 minutes once since too (2010 final).

Unpopular opinion: now that they've gone to 48, they may as well bump it up to 64 and even out the groups.

Are there more teams playing with right and left footed on the right and left wings so that they can cross from the by-line. There certainly seems to be more goals being scored from crosses like that.

 

I don't know why clubs have been so entrenched with playing wings on their unnatural side forcing them to cut inside.

Well I wish we had changed last season I was fed up seeing Fatawu and Mavividi coming inside to a dead end of defenders. I'm also sure Daka would have scored more from crosses from the goal line, sure he would still have missed some but when you only get one or two crosses a game the failure rate looks massively worse, with 5, 10 + crosses you only need one to go in and you're better off that our and Daka's continual failure to score.

I think it's because full backs don't provide the overlapping runs anymore because they are too busy playing at number 10. So wingers have had to go back to providing width.

Until the knockout rounds, it’s going to be ridiculous comparing outcomes and statistics from this WC to those with 32 or fewer teams.
