Looking forward to that attention seeking DR Congo supporter getting some heat from the England fans.

Interesting history behind it, though.

3-2 Japan I reckon.

We can hope.

I expect Japan will be a bit more conservative in the knock out stages though.

They really back their fitness /  conditioning and their organisation.

Against Germany and Spain in the last world cup, they backed themselves to sit back and soak up pressure in the first half and then opened up to hit them on the counter in the second half. I imagine we'll see similar against Brazil.

See also: Mexico v Ecuador.

I guess that surprises me less given it'll have more interest in the Americas than in Europe / North Africa.

Not that I'm doubting it could be a great game.

Take out Vinny Junior and Brazil are nothing special.

17/4 in normal time, 12/5 to go through.

Cheers guys, just think that if they going to do it, it will be having gone the distance.

Will be interesting how Japan do approach this as this Brazil team are very attritional, happy to hit on the transition, not bothered about possession etc.

Reckon it will be cagey but as the game goes on, potentially Brazil won't have the legs to deal with Japan, especially in midfield.

Brazil will probably find a way to win but Japan's odds look a tad big.

When you get games like that though it's often the "favourite" that caves under the pressure of expectation and comes forward to try and get on the front foot first.

I'd expect Brazil to have more possession and to play the higher average line.

The fact they're less comfortable doing that than historically bodes well for Japan (and England, should the two meet later.)

I was reading/hearing a lot yesterday about Jesse Marsch’s “antics” but the most important thing is he’s met expectations for Canada while having to manage two difficult injury situations. It’s tough without Davies and from what I saw yesterday Davies wasn’t sharp.

It was an ugly game yesterday but they won and had all of the better chances in a game where they should have had all of the better chances. Marschball isn’t made to be pretty.

Marsh has a loud personality and management style but Canada responds positively to this (and yesterday showed some of their players apparently also know when it’s time to calm him down 😂). Marsch was right to dismiss concerns about his “antics” and I don’t think Canadians should care much either. John Herdman had an in-your-face style on the field and in front of microphones, but Canada responded well to him, too. Without question he took their national team program forward.

So only 2 of France, Germany, Spain and Portugal can progress to the quarters. Mental.

Draws opening up for England but I doubt we'll have the quality to take advantage.

Only France look decent, the other 3 are nothing special so far.

I actually thought his post-match team talk about "Canadian Heroes" was actually pretty decent. He's clearly a good man manager.

He seems like a good guy, but I don't think I could watch Marschball week in week out.
