People cheering and celebrating when Dan Burn came on sums up everything wrong with our mindset

Pub I was in went mental when he came on and two minutes later Argentina scored.

I hated it when Konza came on, and gave up on the game when Burn was introduced

Very frustrating but i think we're still a couple of players short. Improvement on two years ago but we've hardly been great all tournament. Our wingers have been pretty toothless throughout (despite Gordan taking his goal well). Obv keeping possession was the main issue. I actually think we looked most dangerous when Kane came and received the ball deep and fizzed passes in. Apart from that it was just pass it out to the wingers who lacked creativity. Rice and Saka not being at the races hasn't helped- who are our 3rd and 4th best players imo.

Is there a role for Kane to play as a number 10 in the future with a striker beyond him? I know that's Bellingham's position, but i feel Kane is more creative and Bellingham is more a moments player. Could you play Jude deeper? Maybe we just need to use Kane more intelligently rather than flog him every game.

The one that still haunts me is the Euro 2021 final. That was so winnable. All the other tournaments we've probs ended up where we should have been.

You want Bellingham in and around the box because he scores and makes goals. You win tournaments with players making the difference in the big moments.

Messi has transformed his career and has achieved his remarkable longevity by realising that he can make a bigger impact games in moments rather than a full 90. In the first 75 minutes he was barely involved and then bang two crosses, two goals. They got him on the ball in the right areas at the right times. England couldn't do that with Jude.

As good as Jude is, he's not comparable to Messi and isn't really a playmaker. We need someone who is creative and we don't currently have that out wide. I think Kane is our most creative player, but that would require dropping him into Jude's position and Jude is the future. If Olise had played for the country he was meant to play for it would all be okay :D

I wasn't comparing ability or playstyle. I'm just saying when the ball is in and around the edge of the box, you want Bellingham there. He's shown all tournament that he can get on the ball and make an impact. You don't want him 30-40 yards away. The three of Rice, Bellingham and Anderson works. Just have to hope that the three of them can deliver in 2028 during a home Euros.

I gave Southgate a free pass for Croatia in 2018. Compare the midfield they had to ours. They had Rakitic, Modric and Brozovic, whereas we had Henderson, Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard. The difference in technicality and the ability to control a game in those midfields is pretty stark. The Italy game in 2021 was a kicker though. Last night, though against a better team, was worse than the Italy game. 12% possession for nearly 30 minutes is pathetic.

There was something in his existing deal to do with an extension that was performance based wasn’t there? Hard to see a semi final not triggering that.

like you say though in the context of last night alone he needs binning.

Maybe he’ll resign, because i can’t imagine the press will let him forget last night.

It’s also worth remembering that he made a Horlick of the Norway game too!

Sharing it with the other home nations and Republic of Ireland. Not sure anyone else wanted it. Good job we are getting it as precious little chance of a WC

Feel like Tuchel just doesn't really rate us which I can't really argue with as I don't rate us that highly. He's constantly been talking about us needing to be better and not being happy with performances. If he trusted the players like the Spanish manager trusts his we wouldn't have reverted to that dirge last night

Mentality.

This is it isn't it. I'm 57 and have accepted it's never happening in my lifetime.

We've had far more talented squads than this one and they have failed to get over the line.

You would think the law of averages would work in our favour just once but there's always something, a sending off, poor referees, bad tactics, the lottery of penalties.

You think we would be able to just fluke just one, but no that's not for the likes of us!
