The most annoying thing is Tuchel was brought in for moments such as yesterday, being 1-0 up in a semi-final.

He got into his own head.

Reminded me of the UCL final he won with Chelsea where Pep decided to go without a defensive midfielder and they were promptly split in two with a simple through ball.

He overthought the situation and didn't think about what was in front of him. If I were him i'd have taken Kane off for either Eze or Mainoo. Overloaded the midfield area and stopped crosses.

Pickford

James Stones Guehi Spence

Rice Mainoo Anderson

Rogers Bellingham

Gordon

That would have been my first sub. 2nd/3rd would likely have been O'Reilly on for Spence and Rashford/Watkins on for Gordon. O'Reilly to get some height and ability on the ball and Watkins/Rashford for a fresh injection of pace up front. All with the simple message of make sure there is no space in and around our penalty area and to make sure we keep the ball when we get it.

Easy from your sofa though isn't it

I don't necessarily disagree with anything you'd said there but it would be a pretty huge call to take Kane off as first sub with half hour still to play.

The midfield in the squad with Henderson and Mainoo has back up always looked light to me. I wonder if he would have bought Henderson on if he wasn't injured? Bit of leadership but also not afraid to wind them up. Mainoo clearly not rated which makes the choice of him ahead of Wharton staggering.

For me, first subs should've been fresh legs out wide for Rogers/Gordon or as you say, Mainoo in the middle but for Gordon/Rogers rather than Kane at that stage.

Yes but I wasn't signed up for specifically that reason and paid millions to do it!

I understand why it would be and it would take a man with a lot of bottle to take him off but I felt like it was the right thing to do at the time. He could barely jog let alone run.

Wharton absolutely had to make the squad specifically for last nights scenario. Someone to get on the ball with Anderson and calm the game down. It was the number 1 selection error that Tuchel made along with not selecting a fit and healthy right back.

Just saw the footage of the Argentine sub running across the pitch, in front of our players after the first goal lol

What the **** is that about.

Why has subs running on the pitch in international football become the norm

Seems to have happened every game at this tournament. Not a fan of it at all.

Var is obviously busy reviewing the goal - he should receive a yellow card but what’s the point at this stage ?

Didnt know there have been a lot of hefty bans for other players making political statements on the pitch or in celebration.

Hope Argentina dont get bans (spoiler alert - they wont) since I want no excuses if Spain beat them.

2-0 up against West Germany in 1970

1-0 up against Germany in 1996

2-1 up against Argentina in 1998

1-0 up against Iceland in 2016

1-0 up against Croatia in 2018

1-0 up against Italy in 2020

1-0 up against Argentina in 2026

Mentality.

The big one that sticks out above is Italy Euro 2020, the match would have been won by pushing for a 2nd instead of Southgate/Tuchel tactics.

In 2018 and 2026, you are probably losing the final anyway.

Overall Argentina deserved the win but my goodness what a despicable bunch they are. The early fouls that should have been followed by yellow cards. Bringing on the Falklands banner during the post match celebrations. They just can't help themselves. No class despite their talent.

Ramsey called them "animals" which is an insult to animals. They, Uruguay and Paraguay are stuck out at the arse-end of the world revelling in the macho idea that they are all gauchos. They're mostly descended from Spanish conquistadors and Italian immigrants - a volatile mix.

Martinez and his cock extension display with the WC last time round shows  the mentality - no-one had the awareness to stop him.

I suspect Spain will send them weeping back home.

Directly after full-time I was fairly accepting of the result and even the manner it happened but as today has gone on the more it's got to me. One of the worst tactical performances I've ever seen. Baffling as to why Tuchel was given an extension prior to the tournament when we looked to have regressed since Euro 2024. Going out at the semi finals was about par for this group especially that we looked unconvincing throughout. I wouldn't waste Euro 2028 on Tuchel.

Also, I find people that either live in England or worked in England that seem to enjoy England's failure's particularly strange. For example, if I lived in France, of course England would still be number one but I'd still want France to do well so long as it wasn't England.

The hate England get from all angles is actually quite draining.

Apart from the obvious, we're disliked by some of our own population and as you say, people who live here who should show more respect imo.

Except last night was the manager. He nullified any chance of us scoring another goal with the lack of outlet and the sheer fatigue of Kane and Bellingham in the last half hour.

Ultra defensive like that and Argentina can literally camp in our half. Its amazing how much quicker a game will go if you have an outlet and win some throws and corners in the final third.

England blew it last night, but why are Argentina refereed differently to every other team on the planet? Why is it they're allowed to play with such a level of aggression that literally no other team would get away with and it's just accepted?

This isn't sour grapes from last night btw. Thought this for years. I just find it curious that in an age where just about any contact is a foul, they get away with playing like it's the 1970s. It was laughable but entirely predictable that an England player would be the first in the book for his first foul last night. Meanwhile Simeone is smashing people late, right, left and centre and he gets a wag of the finger from the ref lol

I work in an industry with a lot of people from overseas and the amount of negative connotations I hear about England and the culture here is at least mildly disrespectful.

If I chose to live in another country I would never repeat such rhetoric to natives of that country. Its basic common courtesy.

Having lived abroad for much of my adult life I can assure there is nobody worse for this than the English.

Fair enough. I can only speak as to how I behave abroad, in comparison to the anglophobic attitudes i see from a certain percentage of those from overseas who choose to live here.

I also doubt you would get English fans in Italy for example, jeering the locals in a bar after another heart wrenching defeat.

Probably not in Italy.

Spain perhaps, although those bars don't have 'locals' in them.

I do though remember a Portuguese bar in my home town getting trashed in 2004.
