Not sure what’s wrong with his highlights reel a lot of those finishes are composed he’s not just shooting in hope, he puts the keeper on his 4rse a couple of times to go around him and slot in, he looks strong & holds off defenders to get a shot in, he’s scored with both left and right feet and has a decent turn of pace.
You can go on about standard of defending but any good goal in any league will make the defence/ keeper look silly.

Who signs an unknown Bosnian 23yo forward from the Slovenian leagues as a knee jerk reaction?

A knee jerk reaction was over spending on a £15m Vestergaard on a 5 year contract because Fofana got injured and you're panicking that you need a household name Premier League ready centre back to come and step in.

It doesn't even look likely to be agent driven, it appears his agent is an independent with a tiny local client base if any at all?

Whether or not this turns out to be a good signing is still up in the air but it does look like a signing that's the result of either actual traditional scouting or some data analytics department. Whether ours or City Football Group's is another matter.

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t mate.

This guy looks like a good buy considering the price is low and potential high. We could be buying 2 strikers this guy the first part. Let’s not forget history tells us over paying for players does not guarantee success.

I dont want to put a negative spin on this. BUT, IMO all of our signings this season so far have substance, logic, thought and planning into them.

To me, this smells of desperation. I was slightly disappointed that we spent between 1-3M on Cullen but 2M on a complete unknown seems very very high risk and not with the strategy.

Having listened to Ric's latest podcast with the ex sunderland guy funds are at a premium.

This just feels like all targets for a CF have fell through and this is a bit knee jerk.

Again, as the main man up front next season, i find it hard that he has all the criteria. If he is back up to a new guy coming in then fine, but if thats the case i dont know where all the money is coming from.

I hope i am proven wrong.

@ricflair great podcast again btw

Those worrying about a panic/desperate buy, it is a pretty random player to go for! For a desperation buy I’d expect it to be some known player from English leagues who’s scored 10/12 goals a season for a couple of years that isn’t particularly rated.

if this lad comes he comes wanting to make a name for himself in England and have a career in better leagues than he’s currently in. Hope he does well if he signs, has scored a variety of goals in YouTube clip, I like the one where he presses opposition to win back and shoots early. (Yes the keeper should 100% save it) that winning the ball back high Martin will be a huge fan of.

The signings we have made or looking to make feel like like the summer under Enzo. You understand why they are getting signed and are actually filling the gaps that was required.

The same comments probably got made at Hermansen and Fatawu potential transfer fee at the time, but I can see logic in all the signings so far.

Yep I get the apprehension.

Its a risk, then even signing someone who has scored goals at a certain level is a risk but less of one I guess. Wareham and Ballard for example, could've had a one off season. No guarantee they'd be successful.

I'd wonder if there might be a loan as well as this one.

I’m getting the word Daka coming into my head right now

I agree about the names you have mentioned though. Never any guarantees of success. Most of the awful transfers that have put us where we are now were experienced at the level.

I think the failure of some of these players has been more to do with culture and decline across the club. When Pearson was here, transfers experienced or not rarely missed. I definitely believe in part, that comes as part of a positive trajectory or culture around the club during that period.

He played almost exclusively as a lone forward in a 4231 and was largely used as an outlet for balls pumped forward which ( @kingfox @Ric Flair) will explain the extremely high number of aerial duels and also the high number of aerial duels lost, as strikers very rarely win those challenges.

He's apparently decent at holding up the ball and being played off but equally likes to run the channels and get in behind. Though not exactly with the pace of Vards. Tbf we also heard that about Carranza who had the mobility of Ayew with broken knees.

From a pure goalscoring and shooting perspective, his stats are very encouraging, the best striker in the Slovenian league in a lot of those metrics.

He also seems to excel when it comes to dribbling and ball-carrying, aside from goalscoring and shooting, that looks to be his main asset. As I mentioned last night, he was averaging four dribbles per90, 2.17 of them being successful, at a success rate of 54%, those are also very encouraging numbers.

As you also say, he seems adept at running the channels and getting in behind, a number of his goals last season were scored in that manner.

In terms of aerial ability, I dunno, his stats are just weirdly shite. I’ll compare him to Benjamin Tetteh(the ex Hull striker currently playing in the same league), he averaged slightly less aerial duels at 5.69, with a success rate of 51%, Bristric just 20%. Of course there’s a height difference to consider, but we’ll see in the coming weeks whether he heads like Kieffer Moore or Conor Chaplin.

I just don't think he's an aerial striker at all. Can you see how many of his goals last year were headers? Were any? He's probably just the typical big lad that gets the ball pumped at him by virtue of being tall while it's not his game at all. He's pretty skinny, watching a couple of clips he doesn't particularly look like a target man.

I've not looked but I'm guessing his ground based duels / take ons / whatever aren't especially high. Most of those dribbles look like they're in to empty space, picking the ball up behind the defence in the channels and running at the box.

He's not a dribbler like Fatawu is a dribbler, he's a dribbler like a young Vardy was, getting a lot of ball to run with in space because he got in behind.

Mahrez, Kante. Knocy were risks.  They did not turn out that badly:dunno:

bosnianfox1884 - where are you?   Any chance you can pause knocking back pints of Tuzlanski Pilsner and give Foxestalk an update?

I think you have to judge a transfer window as a whole rather than focusing on individual signings. A successful window needs a balance of lower-risk, shorter-term additions, where you have a good idea of what you're going to get, and higher-risk, longer-term signings that may take more time to develop but offer greater upside.

I think there will be a lot more movement in the squad, and I expect we'll be in the market for two forwards, as we frankly have none at the moment. Ideally, one would be a more experienced, ready-made option who can make an immediate impact, while Bristrić is being brought in as a development project with longer-term potential.

A couple of weeks ago, people were saying we'd hardly sign anyone. Now we've brought in five players. A week ago, the narrative was that we wouldn't spend any money, yet we have. Let's see how the rest of the window develops before making any firm judgements. There's still plenty of time left, and I think there will be a lot more movement in the squad before it closes.

I'm sorry, have we reached a level of stupidity where it's now incomprehensible to some people that a post with actual paragraphs in it might actually have been written by a person?

Agreed. He’s now coming into a league where you see aerial duels amongst strikers being way more common. Even though he averaged the 2nd most amount of aerial duels for Slovenian league forwards, you shove his stats into League 1 last season, then he would’ve ranked 36th. Of course he’s also coming into a system where aerial duels won’t be a necessity.

You don’t see number 9s averaging the same amount of dribbles as Fatawu lol but jokes aside, for a number 9 to be averaging four dribbles per90, at a success rate of 54%, it definitely indicates that it’s one of his strengths. Like above, you stick those four dribbles per90 amongst League 1 forwards last season, he would’ve ranked 4th.
