The "do they mean us?" thread

Recommended Posts

Not about us as such... but well worth a read so wanted it in the more prominent section.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/in-bed-with-maradona/2017/may/18/football-replays-camera-angles-reflect-society-politics-photographs

An opening taste for you...

In 1972, four half-hour episodes on the BBC attempted to change how we approached visual culture and how we saw the world around us. John Berger’s Ways of Seeing was a landmark in the history of arts broadcasting and education. Berger, an art critic, playwright and Booker Prize-winning novelist, who fought against injustice and wrote articles and essays on society and politics, passed away in January this year. This piece is not an obituary or analysis of his works; it is about football, or as Berger would perhaps have put it, what we see when we watch football.

The piece also links in this fascinating clip of Conte's perfectly drilled Italian side.

Perhaps this piece helps explain how two fans of the same team can see something so differently.

Enjoy!

Leicester encourage fans to 'be fearless' as they unveil new kit, hours after watching them get battered by Spurs

Leicester City's title defence never really got off the ground, did it?

Beaten on the opening day away at Hull City, the club's owners were so concerned the club's lack of form in February that they opted to give Claudio Ranieri the boot in a bid to beat what was shaping up to be a relegation battle.

It paid off. Under Craig Shakespeare, the club managed to turn things around, securing their top flight status and even reaching a Champions League quarter final.

With thoughts already turning to next season for many of those connected with the dethroned champions, they were given a reminder on Thursday evening of just how far they had fallen from the Premier League's top clubs.

Tottenham, already guaranteed a second place finish behind Chelsea, hammered them 6-1, Harry Kane filling his boots with four goals.

A matter of hours after being handed such a beating, Leicester unveiled their new home kit for 2017/19. Unfortunately for them, plenty were able to spot the irony of the accompanying hashtag.

If by being 'fearless' Leicester want their supporters to not be scared of watching their side getting well and truly thrashed once in a while, we guess there's no problem whatsoever.

:crylaugh:

Can't really argue with any of it.

Tbh i'm surprised no-ones took the piss out of #Fearless other than ourselves already.

Why are Luton and Notts County on there? Were they relegated in '91?

As the payments are equal and they were relegated in the same year, I'd hazard a guess at parachute payments (most likely in a different model to today's) paid to them by the PL.

Just saw this on BBC Sportsday - Premier League reaction and gossip - http://www.bbc.com/sport/live/39787059

When the game stopped

QPR v Leicester in Championship 3 years ago. QPR top of league and all over an average Leicester. Squirrel came on and stopped play for 10 minutes, disrupted QPR rhythm and Leicester went onto win 0-1 with a Vardy goal, then won 13 games on the trot getting them promoted to the Premiership eventually. No one ever thanked the squirrel for Leicester's success. (Jeremy, London)

So I'll say it. Thank you Squirrel !!

That squirrel eventually helped us to the Premier League title whilst they end up with Ian Holloway :pearson:

It's only the club that use this fearless shite none of us actually care.

It actually built up from the terraces, over the years,

more to do with leicester dry and wry humour. The club then took it on.

And whether you like it or not, some other fans, like the idea...

Hey the dozo who mentions the 1-6 defeat.....You can have it!!!    We got the title.

Amazing how quick some fans, jumpback behind the sofa, as soo as someone says Boo.

That title will remain a bug bare to Spurs, more than the 1-6 defeat. That was 1 game.

We played 38 for our bragging right....

Again shame that some Leicester fans Cower  away from, a word slowly developed within the club..

FFs...King Dick would have your heads...Traitors to the cause, and turncoats, when the bogeyman comes knocking!!!!

And again fearless will be our cry....The fall, was a slip, and not a knockout....Let Battle commence, the cretins of doubt will fall Upon their own weapons...

a) We had yet to hit top form but we were far from average.
b) QPR weren't all over us.
c) The delay was 2-3 minutes at most thanks to Nuge.

But hey, why let the facts get in the way of Jeremy from London's unfunny comment.

You understand jokes right?

Very seeing as two clubs have never been in the prem but have received 1.5m. How's that work?

Luton and Notts County were part of the group of clubs who agreed the formation of the premier league prior to their relegation in the final season of Division One. I imagine that money is to do with the signing of that deal somehow.

Whoaaa   there fella, there Is a difference between good and shrewd  business, and corruption.

Notts County, one of the profis grounding fathers.

Luton, a club who fought its way ghrough the ranks and came good (humble terms).

A few lower league clubs, try to fight the good fight, and to balance the football books..

There are still the goodguys....Its so easy to slip in to the cynical Vocabulary and mindset.
