Babylon Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 If Pearson keeps Beckford then he's gone up in my estimation, it means he's prepared to work with a supposed ego and luxury player. In reality he's a talented but limited player and Nigel knows he can get the best out of him. All good if true. Best news of a quiet summer so far, albeit a quote off an agent. And what if Pearson wants rid because a) he's a limited player or b) he thinks he can get better value for money from someone else? Why does it always have to come down to him not liking a player with an "ego"? The reality is all of these "ego" or "luxury" players were nowhere near even being our best players last year, so he's well within his rights to try and look for better options. If we were talking about him supposedly not being able to manage and wanting rid of our best performers like Nugent, Kasper etc then fair enough, we're not though.

Well if Pearson wants to get rid then that's his prerogative, but I'm not so sure he does. Beckford was one of our better performers in the 2nd half of the season, he was just diabolical in the 1st 20 or so games. He got man of the match on 5 or 6 occasions from January onwards at least. One things for sure with Waghorn and Vardy available then he'll have to perform even better otherwise he won't play. I believe Nugent to be our best striker if not best player, but Pearson often favoured keeping Beckford on than Nugent. Why was that? Nugent often ran himself in to the ground but sometimes it seemed Nigel was more confident in Beckford. As I say, I'll trust Pearson on this one. If he does keep him, it's a big 2 fingers to the boo boy's who think Pearson cannot and will not manage players with ego's.

That's why - Nugent wears himself out, whereas Beckford conserves his energy. I'm not having a dig there - I know not all strikers should/need to work as hard as Nugent does, but it is true that Nugent's work rate is much higher than Beckford's.
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Wouldn't say Beckford is our number 1 striker But spose his agent will say that
Lambert09 Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 I can't see the fans ever getting behind Beckford. I really want him to stay as he is exciting to have on the pitch and I'm confident he will give us some great moments this year
bald reynard Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 I think all this talk by his Agent - and the actions of the club, in appearing not to want to sell, is all a deliberate scheme to 'bump up his price'. I firmly believe he'll be sold - probably near the end of the August transfer window, after scoring a couple of goals in early season matches - for a price of around £3m plus add ons. At the moment we'd only get half to two thirds of that. I think Nige is being quite canny about this - unlike Mills - and by playing 'hard to get', could acquire a bit more money for him - to spend on that 'big striker' he always likes in his squad. I don't think there's any way Nige wants to keep Beckford for the whole of this season, given his past 'relationship' with him. Pure speculation on my part of course - but still !

Unless he takes a pay cut (rumoured to be £28k/week) no Championship Club will want him and I've doubts after his brief cameo for Everton they'll be a queue of PL clubs wanting him enough never mind enough to bump up the transfer fee. The only real chance is if he's prepared to take a cut in wages and we're prepared to take another loss. This is all assuming Pearson wants shot of him which is pure speculation anyway.
marbelladave Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Vamos Leicester, en el estilo de la selección española Don't be silly, no international team will ever win anything playing without strikers.......

I have no problems with Beckford, not the greatest worker in the team and useless as a target man but he can be very sharp in the box given the chance. No, my issue is the 'fit' between Beckford and NFP's Leicester. Being polite, NFP does play a pretty direct style with a fair amount of long ball, this is never going to suit Beckford's game, no matter how hard he is prepared to work. Since it appears that NFP is settling in for a long stay, I think it would benefit both parties if Beckford is moved on, nothing personal, just the wrong player in the wrong place, shame.
artursteppe Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 We will play 4-3-3 this season, by and large, with an option to play the more standard 4-4-2 if we get a target man. This would suit Beckford, with Nugent and Marhall alongside and ( currently ) options of Waghorn and Vardy, maybe Gallagher. Dyer will only be used if we get a target man in the 4-4-2 option. This could not have worked with Wellens in the team, but now we can move on. Drinkwater, Danns, James ( current ) first choice midfield trio with King as backup and a desperate need for a new quality midfielder ( maybe Korens ). The defence will be whatever NP organises. That's it folks!

marbelladave Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Nigel, is that you? Certainly not! I would not dream of playing anything so modern and adventurous. We're going to play 4-4-fooking-2, we shall endeavour to play a passing game, moving the ball mostly sideways inside our own half and then, when the opposition has had plenty of time to properly organise their defence, hit long, hopeful balls forward to Beckford, who will be so lazy that he fails to win any ball even though he is up against a defender who is only twice is size. Clear? NFP.
Bayfox Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Beckford is our number one poacher. I've heard he does a mean fried egg as well......
Guest Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 I've heard he does a mean fried egg as well...... Does that make him an eggsellent player?
Fox42 Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Does that make him an eggsellent player? An eggcelent whale killer as well
Xen Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Does that make him an eggsellent player? You'd hope so, after the amount of money we shelled out for him last summer...
Adster Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 Another thread turned into a bunch of terrible puns. Only on FoxesTalk.
Oadby Fox Posted 8 July 2012 Posted 8 July 2012 He might be eggxciting for us next season! tends to scramble the boil alot!
