Kasey Keller was supposed to be one of the cleverer footballers. I remember back in the 90's a footy mag tested a load of players and he came out top - I think he was at Millwall at the time.

No links to Leicester but isn't Clarke Carlisle supposed to be Britains brainiest footballer. Appeared on Countdown and Question Time. Has a degree in sports writing and broadcasting (according to Wikipedia).
