Points for promotion

Love these threads! The great thing is, I can't be arsed with all the maths behind it,however, I really appreciate those that do and post, thank you.

My personal feeling, with assumed dropped points from those chasing, I would still put my money on it being the Sheffield Wednesday game, which I feel would be perfect. Imagine clinching our place in the Premier League at the KP, full house under the lights on a Friday night with the footballing world able to watch it live on Sky. Then one hell of a fookin party with time to recover :P:beer:

Sends shivers just thinking about it! COYB

Thinking I will get barred from my local if this happens.

Had a one man kop in there for the sheep game and upset a few.

Thinking I'll upset a lot if we do it that night   :scarf:       :scarf:

Don't apply for a job on Countdown any time soon

Ooops I had a mare!

92-77=15 points so 5 wins should seal the title.

With Burnley averaging 2 ppg throughout the whole season.

92 is the target imo.

To send you spinning....how many pints do you think you need to drink, before city are confirmed as promoted, then how

Many there after, for title...dont spill any, and grap some scratchings

Ha ha, I've said for a while that I feel 90 is the magic no for promotion, personally think 95/6 will be enough for title and feel we'll get more! :P  COYB

Still looking at the gap between ourselves and Burnley.

...So...

10 x 3 = 30

30 + 73 = 103

103 - 80 = 23

23 / 3 = 7.6 (wins) - meaning my calculations still results in the Reading/QPR time next month.

But take into consideration this is if Burnley win every game.

qpr can get a max of 96 points. 5 wins and a draw if you take our 20 goal superior goal difference we are mathematically up.

Just noticed that. 16 points is what we need then for promotion, providing QPR win every game. Take's us to the Sheffield Wednesday/Brighton time.

If we got 5 wins and a draw and, presumably, 5 defeats and QPR won all their remaining games then how can you be sure that we'd still have a better goal difference?

well our gd is 20 better than theirs. 5 wins means it's a minimum of 25 better than theirs. probably more than that seen as we are continually scoring at least (at least 3 recently).

they've scored 43 goals all season, if they win all their 11 games they'll probably improve their gd by about 15 at most imo unless they unearth some new found scoring powerhouse. so ours would be better seen as we never lose by more than a goal.

it's all ifs and buts and none of it is relevant because i can assure you we will take more than 16 points from our last 11 games and qpr won't win all theirs. so it's all gravy, baby.

I just hope we do it at home and with a win, hollow isn't the right word but it'd be less pleasing if we were sat at home not playing a game and went up because of another team's inept performance.

I'd be out on the town with the pads watching the scores come in in that scenario.

I think 87 will be enough now.

The sheepshaggers have gone off the boil, only Wigan look capable of finishing 3rd, QPR are inconsistent win one lose one etc.

After 35 games in their 106 point season Reading had 83 points and after 39 games 91 points.

Just shows how well we are going

The second and third placed teams had played 36 games and were on 74 and 67 points

90 points was the second place for Sheff utd

Makes you realise how poor this league was last season. We have achieved both Hulls and Cardiffs totals from last season already yet we are not guaranteed promotion yet?

Cardiff ended last season with 87. We will never catch them

Surely it shows how good the league was last year if the top teams got less points.

Well it depends how you look at it, you could say there wasn't any outstanding teams so every team was on a more level playing field...

At this stage, we have 80 points with 11 games to go. There are 33 more points to play for and IF we win the rest of our games (I personally don't think we will), we would have a staggering 113 points. That would be a new record for the most points in a season in any Football League division.

Mathematically, I think 15 more points would be enough, providing that Derby and QPR keep dropping points. If we want to be champions, I reckon we definitely need to break the 100-point barrier. Burnley are hot on our heels and and they will push us all the way to the end.

We need 16 points ( as of Sunday March 16th ) because QPR can only get 96 points , 16 points more than we have now. Every time QPR play and drop points our required points total decreases by that amount. The same applies to Wigan (94 points ) and Derby ( 93 points ). In other words we are in a very strong situation , COYB

This has already been discussed on another post. I believe we need 17 points and that would be assuming all the other teams in the mix win all their remaining 11 which is unlikely
