Watford Post Match Thread 2-2

Brilliant.

The run of win's is over but atleast we've kept the unbeaten run going, and what a strike :worship:

Watford are the dirtiest, most time wasting and cheating team I think i've ever seen, they just parked the bus after both goals really and we struggled to break them down.

That last minute goal from Drinky was amazing though, best way to get a draw! lol

Superb.

Well, that's the fans' expectations (or rather, your personal opinion). League position says nothing in this division. You cannot go to a match and think your team will batter the opposition just because they're positioned somewhere in mid-table.

All participants in this league have something to fight for and for a team like Watford, playing against the No.1 club in the Championship adds another extra layer of spicy-ness, not only due to the happenings last May.

So, take off your slightly elevated position, come back down to your senses and realize that nothing comes easy in this football tier. In particular, when you start basing your arguments on league positions.

fcukin hell have you read that wrong! I meant that's how other fans must view each fixture not myself. If you read any of my posts you'll realise that 1. Im one of the least positive city fans on here and 2. I had £20 on Watford to win yesterday

It's so embarrassing. Being top really does highlight the pathetic bitterness a lot of fans actually have.

Have you been first that much? Say Forest and QPR have been more..

I hope Birmingham are cannon fodder on Tuesday!

What a cowardly, game-killing display from Watford. I'm so glad we equalised.

Not only were they LITERALLY playing an 8-0-2 formation, but they were looking for every excuse to play act, timewaste and cheat.

Typical old-skool slimy Italian cowards.

The way Watford were set up in terms of formation and playing style (fast counter-attacks when needed) reminded me of the old-school catenaccio (sans the antiquated libero).

With an Italian coach at the helm - coincidence?

was it you who rang up RL complaining?

Whilst itwas a bit unsightly perhaps, 50 bags (at the most) from 23k fans isn't that bad

lol no!

50 bags or 500 bags, find a bloody bin, it's not hard.

I'm glad most people on here can see the bigger picture. We weren't at our scintillating best but still managed to get a draw against a team that set up in a negative time wasting manner. A very valuable point and shows our never say die attitude once again.

Although I think its maybe time to give Dyer a rest,I think some of the ccriticism he received yesterday was a bit harsh. If Nuge had put that free header in from Lloyds cross we'd have been praising him, don't know how he managed to.get it across.

Gutted we have to wait so long for our next game

Not read all the other pages as I've just woke up, but what really impressed me about yesterday is that even though we went 2-0 down and at times never really looked like scoring we stuck to how we play football these days, and trusted that the way we play will come good in the end, it did and we could even have won the game at the end.

At no point did we just start lumping the ball in the box like we would of done in the past.

Still on a great run, massive positive from yesterday was we still created chances against a very defensive setup and got something. Expect we're going to see more buses being parked against us at the KP but one thing that we remain excellent at is keeping going and never giving up for the full game.

I don't think it was a free header- it was above him and he just couldn't jump any higher.

I am still living for that 41st minute of yesterday's game knowing that the Watford fans, who haven't really experienced anything exciting in their history, went 2-0 up at the world class King Power Stadium against the mighty champions-elect Leicester City.........

...... but messed it up lol

Watford did what they had to do to get a result and good luck to them. In similar circumstances we'd have done the same.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong it wasn't easy but technically it was still a free header :P

Disagree with the last bit. We started lumping from 80-85mins + and it was exactly what was required as well. I thought Pearson left the subs a bit too late. Sometimes winning ugly is whats required and lumping tends to fit that bill. Either way the equsliser came through such play

Reminded me of a horrible Sven era game v Portsmouth who scored quite early on (Nugent, who cupped his ears - big hands has Nugent, in our direction) then insured that there would be no more football that day, a classic example being a guy who landed off the pitch, rolling back on before calling for a physio.

It comes to something when one of the two teams on the pitch are scared of the ball being in play, maybe it should be converted to latin and added to Twatfords badge.

And have to say it, the windy conditions aided their hoofball style in the first half!

Cannot believe some people are criticising their style of play, who are you Jose Mourinho? We have our style of play they have theirs. They came here and did a ****ing good job, fair play to them. (Apart from their time wasting and diving etc)

Difficult game yesterday in difficult conditions. Some really sloppy play for the first two goals, especially the second where De Laet shouldn't have given away possession so easily. To be fair to Watford in the first half they came with a game plan of packing the midfield and hunted in packs giving us very little time on the ball and very few options to pick a pass. They also utilised the counter attack very well and despite their negative style of play it was clear that they were technically far stronger than most teams we are likely to come up against. The weather certainly didn't help either, both on and off the pitch.

Second half was a completely different game. We realised that with them doubling up if we switched the play quickly we'd have more space in the wide areas as we always had a man over. This really stretched Watford and aside from a few counter attacks involving Deeney and Forresteri we dominated the second half and were well worthy of at least a draw.

Aside from the goals we conceded I would have liked to see Dyer playing on the shoulder of the full back which I felt he didn't really do yesterday. I thought Pearson should have instructed Dyer to push further up the pitch rather keep dropping deep into midfield as he had the beating of Faraoni. I'm not knocking him though as it was just one of those days, so I'm not trying to single him out as a scapegoat as there were several others that weren't at the races yesterday.

On a more positive note, what a strike from Drinkwater to equalise at the end. Thought we were very unlucky not to win the game in the end, but delighted with the point as we will not win every game and we won't come up against many teams as technically strong as Watford between now and the end of the season.

Hopefully the finish to the game will lift the lads going into another tough fixture against Forest.

Frustrating as it may be, teams are entitled to set up against us any way they want. It's our job to find a way around that. I'm still very content with the team. How anyone can criticise Dyer, or anyone else for that matter, is beyond me.

Drinkwater's goal was superb technical ability, but don't underestimate James' strike either. He's hit that first time as he's sort of falling.

Not sure about the offside. Can't really tell on FLS. He looks just in front when Deeney strikes the ball, but the angle isn't exactly excellent. Not sure how Forestieri out-jumped De Laet as well leading upto the second goal. Good strike, mind.

It wasn't the best performance I've seen us play. I think this rest has come at a good time, most of them look fatigued out there! But well done to Watford, they had a good game plan (every one behind the ball) and it worked, to an extent. Credit to our players, at 2v0 I thought we had lost the game because Watford would do anything they can to slow the game and defend for their lives.
.... If James and squared that ball or Nugent scored I think I would have gone  :yahoo: (even more so than Drinkwater's goal)

Can't win them all.

Credit to Watford, they had a game plan and stuck to it. Can't bemoan Watford with their defensive tactics, if we go up next season no doubt we will be doing the same against the big teams.

Frustrating day, give credit to Watford, they came with a game plan to deny us space and hit us on the break which they did, Deeney played well in the first half. Second goal was very poor, De Laet had control of the situation and for some reason allowed Forestieri to beat him to the ball. Made amends slightly with the cross for James' goal which came at a crucial time.

Second half was very tough, they were difficult to break down and get through and we didn't test Almunia enough, too many chances going wide (Wasilewski's in the first half being our best) before Drinkwater's wonderful volley so late in the game rescued a point. Even then we could've gone on to win with James excellent run and cross blocked before Nugent's shot wide.

Shame that the winning run has ended, but at least it's another unbeaten and another point closer. Teams will come to us and make it difficult and we need to break them down, but I don't think many will have the defensive quality of Watford.
