teblin Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 I'm not sure why people are doubting Nigel and his staff. He said he won't pay over the odds if he didn't think a player was worth it. If he does think he is £5 million plus he might see something we don't. I have only seen him play against us (in which he battered our 2 centre backs and scored 2 goals) nd the play off games against Derby where he was left very isolated.
Ric Flair Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 We've got to trust Pearson on this one, by all accounts we were watching him closely before he signed for Brighton so this isn't a panic buy on the basis of him scoring against us last season. I'm always scared of paying what we deem big money (£5 million plus) on an unproven player whose at an age where potential doesn't come in to it either. That said, we need to remember how much money the PL generates for us and spending such money isn't the same as blowing that sort of figure whilst in the Championship. If they think he could compliment the way we play and help us consolidate in the top flight and push on then who'd remember what we paid for him. His record of a goal every other game in the Championship is as good as pretty much any striker whose graced that division in recent years and some have gone for way more than £5 million. I know £10 million is what Brighton want but i'd be amazed if we're even at £5 million on our bidding yet. He does lead the line very well and I could see him working fairly well with Vardy too.
Master Fox Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 I would imagine we'll probably sell Chris Wood for a few million to make up the difference.
dannythefox Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 Be very surprised if we paid over 5 million for him Pearson isn't stupid.
hackneyfox Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 I would imagine we'll probably sell Chris Wood for a few million to make up the difference. A few million? How much did we pay for him?
foxfanazer Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 I would imagine we'll probably sell Chris Wood for a few million to make up the difference.Don't think we'd get a few million for him personally
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 In Pearson we trust but this one seems a bit over the top price wise to say the least #nowherenearworthit.com
Stadt Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 A few million? How much did we pay for him? A million, I don't think we'd get anymore than £2 mill for him though

Webbo Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 Brighton want the maximum they can get for their player and who can blame them. If we do buy him it'll be because Pearson thinks he's worth the money and that's good enough for me.
Stuliasz Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 Right Sorry you just hit on two of my pet peeves - hashtags (they're fookin everywhere) and adding .com to something for no apparent reason. People at work do it in conversation and it makes me crin...oh sorry nearly said it again! Back on subject, I'd put my trust in NP and team on this one entirely as I've not seen enough of him to make a firm judgement. He was disappointing in the playoff games but his stats show that he's clearly better than that and it would be daft to believe otherwise.
Fox Ulike Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 Don't understand the opposition to this guy. He's good in the air, good on the ground. Scores goals. Has scored against Real Madrid. Technically looks good enough to be in the Prem already. Has played top flight in Spain. £3/4m is not a lot to pay for an experienced striker with 3 years to run on his contract.
Maybes Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 Agree with what Flair has posted. Didn't Southampton pay £8m for Rodriguez. Granted he is younger. £10m is steep and I'd doubt we'd go that high. £5-£6m is probably a fair price.
Langley Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 If Brighton are after 10 million (which they know they won't get), why would we go in straight away with a bid for 6/7/8 million? You low ball it surely like when you're buying a car.

idiotic_virtue Posted 28 May 2014 Posted 28 May 2014 Hi All, Firstly congrats on the promotion - very well deserved and about time. Have to say pretty shocked about the comments being levelled at Ulloa on here - has been a fantastic player for us and is truly adored by the fans. While only scored 14 league goals this season he was out injured for the best part of 3 months with a broken foot and was constantly double teamed by defender while being played as a lone striker. As others have said has a great goal record and did well in La Liga in Spain as well. In terms of price tag you should know that we turned down a bid of £5 million last September from Palace (http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/10647133.Deadline_Day__Albion_reject_Palace_bids_for_star_duo/) and, if anything, he has become a more important player for us this season so really cannot see him going for anything less than £7 million. Really hope you do look elsewhere however as not sure how we could replace him! All the best for the premier next season

Majority of people writing him off watched the playoff semi and have judged him on that. From what I've seen he looks a decent player. You watch him every week so what's your scouting report?!?! What are his best attributes?

Really hope you do look elsewhere however as not sure how we could replace him! All the best for the premier next season Thank you for coming to our forum and giving your valued opinion. He is obviously a talent. Not well valued by some on this forum because, one he is playing in the championship and can't get there head around PL quality players are in the championship. and two because few if any have seen or noticed him in very few games to make their judgment of him. In my opinion 10 mil or there about's does seem on the high side for him,but he clearly has PL potential and I am sure is tempted to move to us for that reason seeing you guys didn't go up. It will be hard for Brighton to hang on to him with PL teams sniffing around. Also he may be to expensive for you to keep playing in the championship. Surely his agent will be seeking a pay rise if you do hang on to him. I am guessing a fee of around 7 mil is the right number, but I am sure we will never really know if a deal does happen. Good luck for the coming season.
katieakita Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Wanting £10 million and getting £10 million are very different, don't know that much about the guy but if Nigel is interested in the guy luckily for us he will. One thing he does is his homework and if he brings this guy in i won't complain. Remember we had that ex England manager bring in that premiership striker from Everton for 30/40k a week then Pearson went and replaced him with some mid 20,s something player from non league football. Many huffed and puffed on here about him and us overpaying afetr he didn't have the best first season. Cannot remember the last post sayiing we paid over the odds for Vardy. Pearson and his tea has done a fantastic job in improving the squad and cutting wages but lets remember premier and championship income are very, very different. Nigel Pearson has a knack of bringing in players who we haven't heard much of and making them into very good players so let him get on with doing what he is very good at.
Nod.E Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 Who foresaw the likes of Holt and Lambert bagging at the rate they have done in the Prem?Ulloa is exactly the mold of player that we're missing as a newly promoted outfit, and with the likes of Knocky, Mahrez and Albrighton on the wings, I can see him notching double figures with his head alone. Hopefully it ends up being nearer 5 than 10, but I understand our persistence with this deal entirely.

Trouble is following Vichai's recent willy-wanging about how much money he's got to spend, we are gonna have to pay over the odds for any player we want. We should just get this agreed quickly one way or the other so that it doesn't turn into another Nicky Maynard fiasco. If they want £7m then we should just offer them £6m and if they turn it down then forget it. We are unlikely to be able to attract a forward as good as him for £6m. I can really see him and Vardy forming a great partnership.
Vlad the Fox Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 I think he would be a good signing. From what I have seen he has good positional sense, has a good touch and can finish. Also if the rumours are true that we've made two or three offers, he hasn't chucked his toys out the pram wanting a move similar to palaces bid last year, so maybe he has a good character which Pearson values as well. I'd be happy for this to happen.

Happy Fox Posted 29 May 2014 Posted 29 May 2014 http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/478839/Leicester-chasing-Brighton-striker-Leonardo-Ulloa The Premier League new boys have already had three bids for the 27-year-old Argentine rejected, the latest believed to be about £4 million. Brighton want £7m for a player who has scored 26 goals in just 58 appearances since signing at the Amex Stadium in January 2013.
