LCFC Rennie Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 Apparently his contacts talks have come to a disagreement. Don't know how trustworthy it is but its all over twitter.
Matt Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 When something is linked/rumoured in The Sun isn't it usually greeted by 'It's only The Sun it must be bullshit'? Why are people believing this and not saying that this time? Regardless if true it's great news - and for the record is rather believe any link/rumour in a tabloid over most shite on Twitter any day.
Matt Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 If this story was about him leaving most people would be calling it bullshit Now a story says he's staying and people are taking it as fact Exactly I know for a fact the 'it's only The Sun it's bullshit' quote would be used more than it has been, probably only 1 or 2 not believing this who have replied in this thread.
Bryn Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 I don't know if he's actually worth the money as an individual but he's an important cog of a well functioning team and with a 4 year contract has good market value. It makes sense really, it's not going to break the club.
nuttytimmy Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 Is that a pinch of salt or a little something from Jamie Vardy to sweeten the deal?
lcfcsnow Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 Fair enough for Kasper but I'll be mortified if we've offered anything like that to Nugent.
Leicester_Numan Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 The issue with this if true is that we're in negotiations with 9 other players and we've set a benchmark of 4 years at 40k a week. So what are we going to offer Morgan, James, Drinkwater, Nugent & Vardy who are equally as important? What about Moore, Wood & Schlupp? All of those are unproven in the prem. Hopper is the other one but his isn't likely to be a huge offer. I wouldn't have a problem with these kind of deals in a couple of seasons if we're established, it just seems too early and very unlike Pearson. If it's not true, the rumour will still get to the other players and their agents and create it's own problem. As long as there are safeguards against relegation or our outgoings stay below the level of parachute payments we'll be fine but the worry is that it won't be the case.

If (and it's a big if) they have offered Kasper 40 then I think Drinkwater will be perfectly in his rights to be demanding 50-60k a week with immediate effect.

How did you come to that conclusion?! Drinky's not a full international, not played Premier League football and hasn't been linked to several Champions League clubs. Drinky has had 1 excellent season in the championship whereas Kasper has had 4 seasons of being one of the best in the league. Plus he's pretty much guaranteed to start every match and even though Drinkwater will probably start the season; a few bad games and he could be out of the team.
Guest MattP Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 Why, is Drinkwater out of contract too? Next summer so it's certainly a contract I'd like to see us attempt to renew in the next couple of months.

If Drinks was Danish he would be capped. I know Kasper is in a great bargaining position but if a player who is player of the year and widely regarded as our best player sees a teammate on that he should expect to be rewarded in a fashion to his talent. I'm glad Kasper has signed, but if he has been placed on the sort of money quoted then a handful of other players should also be knocking on Robinsons door.

I'd rather us wait to see how Drinkwater handles the Premier League first before offering him £60k a week. If he handles it well enough then we should be throwing money at him.
cc_star Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 Most online sources I can find seem to suggest Courtois is on 60k a week at the minute, which for a keeper of his ability is still cheap. In this day and age what is 40k? Considering Messi signed a new deal yesterday with a basic salary of 16.3 mil a year (£313,000 a week) 40k is only just above the premiership average of 24-30k a week. PFA for the info on that. I say fair play if he's negotiated that deal and he's happy to sign. I think if he had to replace him we would be paying mush less than that anyway and who realistically could we get in who is better? Are marshal or ruddy any better really? Neither would come cheap. Only just? 40,000 to 30,000 a third more than the top estimate of average & he's no track record at this level which many on average to above average wage will have. Fair play to him if he's negotiated that, his fantastic winning attitude is as important to us as his amazing shot-stopping abilities, but we really need to see some progress on setpiece balls into the 6yrd box for him to be really worth that kind of record (or near record) outgoing. He has progressed excellently during his time with us, so there's no reason why he can't continue to progress and be as great in the top flight as he was in the second tier.
AKCJ Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 The thing that worries me slightly about the money Kasper will be on is that there might be potential for team mates to get jealous and disrupt the squad's harmony.
fazzyfox Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 You'd think if it's true the official site would be the first to announce the story, it's the kind of positive news that brings the feel good factor and helps to drive season ticket sales........ah, okay then, take your time guys, no rush required, probably all in a hot tub on a thai hotel roof top right now anyway. Farting and getting away with it too no doubt.

Farting and getting away with it too no doubt. All new season tickets have sold out, most current season ticket holders are surely going to renew anyway, ticket's for the first game of next season aren't on sale yet, I get what you mean but your point about ticket sales is pretty flawed really, the club will not be worrying about that for one second.
Dan Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 Forty ****ing grand a week? We better be hoping he turns into a Mignolet/Begovic.
Stadt Posted 17 May 2014 Posted 17 May 2014 Although there are better keepers available on smaller wages but Pearson wants to keep the squad together and paying slightly over the odds on wages is what we'll get for the team spirit which is paramount for our success.
