MooseBreath Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 tbh I think we could all do without the Wayne Rooney this, Wayne Rooney that. The sooner we realize that international football is about 11 players turning up and not one the better. Rooney is taking a lot of the weight of expectation on his shoulders, making it easier for the younger lads. Totally unintentional of course but that's good work from a senior player.
Tincy Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Cahill to score first, they looked very suspect on set pieces against the Costa Ricans
kingcarr21 Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Cahill to score first, they looked very suspect on set pieces against the Costa Ricans good shout. Get your money on it. Also can see us getting a penalty so gerrard 1st goal would be a good bet aswel
Ric Flair Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 good shout. Get your money on it. Also can see us getting a penalty so gerrard 1st goal would be a good bet aswel Doesn't Rooney take our penalties when Lampard isn't playing? I don't recall Gerrard taking penalties for England other than in shootouts.
kingcarr21 Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Doesn't Rooney take our penalties when Lampard isn't playing? I don't recall Gerrard taking penalties for England other than in shootouts. i was thinking that as i typed it. Dont know with Gerrard being Captain i would of thought he would take it. Then again Rooney really wants a world cup goal. Maybe put both bets on
Stadt Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 If Rooney does play well, I hope he does, I don't want the media rimming him or Hodgson because he's had one good game - so many bad performances can't be swept under the carpet easily.
indierich06 Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 I feel a bit sorry for Rooney really, he's never going to get any praise no matter what he does. Can't believe people are suggesting we drop the bloke who has scored and assisted the most goals in Hodgson's time as England manager because he had one shit game playing totally out of position. For whatever reason, he's not done well in World Cups, but on paper he's our best player and I'm sure we're more likely to win games with him on the field, than when he's off it.
ScouseFox Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Think there might be riots in the pubs round here if we get a pen and Rooney takes it over Baines or stevie gee
Finnegan Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Think there might be riots in the pubs round here if we get a pen and Rooney takes it over Baines or stevie gee But why, he's one of their own?
Jon the Hat Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 3-1 England I reckon. Cahill, Sturridge and Rooney. Cavani for them.
Captain... Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 I feel a bit sorry for Rooney really, he's never going to get any praise no matter what he does. It's not just because he had a shit game, it's because he looked off the pace against Italy and in the warm ups, if he isn't fit then it doesn't matter what he did in qualifying, he shouldn't be playing.
Grandad. Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Serious question Fters, when was the last time we had a penalty in a game? Did we have one v San Marino away? Can't even remember.. Think Stevie will be on the penalty if we do ever get one in a big game.
GingerrrFox Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Leighton Baines without a shadow of a doubt should be on penalties whilst Frank is on the bench. If we get as far as a penalty shootout we could have a solid 5. Baines Lambert Lampard Rooney Gerrard

Simmo86 Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Sturridge scored one in a late qualifier I think. Montenegro
Mark_w Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 he's not done well in World Cups, but on paper he's our best player. 50% of that matters.
Ric Flair Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Serious question Fters, when was the last time we had a penalty in a game? Did we have one v San Marino away? Can't even remember.. Think Stevie will be on the penalty if we do ever get one in a big game. We had a few in qualifying, I seem to recall Lampard bailing us out of the tom tit at Wembley in one game. The last time we had a penalty in a major tournmanent is Beckham's miss in 2004 I think?
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Leighton Baines without a shadow of a doubt should be on penalties whilst Frank is on the bench. If we get as far as a penalty shootout we could have a solid 5. Baines Lambert Lampard Rooney Gerrard We've had a solid five at nearly every Euro/World cup. You can still put your house on two of them missing. I can tell you straight away that Lambert will miss.
ScouseFox Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 yeah lampard and gerrard both missed in 06, becks missed in 04, someone "reliable" always misses.
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 yeah lampard and gerrard both missed in 06, becks missed in 04, someone "reliable" always misses. The only fuker who scored in 06 was Hargreaves
ScouseFox Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 The only fuker who scored in 06 was Hargreaves and carra until he had to retake . 2012 was the only year where it wasn't particularly surprising those who missed, missed. gerrard and rooney scored, young was always going to miss and cole was always a bit 50/50 and took a shit pen so that's life
AKCJ Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 I'm not even slightly arsed about England to be fair. Just enjoying this World Cup for what it is and it's the best we've had for years.
Guest ttfn Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 If we get a penalty surely Baines should be taking it unless Lambert is on the pitch? Statistically those 2 are amongst the best penalty takers in world football. Order of preference would be: Lambert Baines Lampard Gerrard Rooney
