The Hammond Effect

Saw him on SSN this morning and here is our record with and without him in PL

With P10-W3-D4-L3- PTS-13 - PTS Per Game-1.3

Without P11-W1-D1-L9-PTS-4 - PTS Per Game-0.36

Always thought he was a decent pro but nothing spectacular, this would suggest he is a bit more influential than I thought.

Ever since the Chelsea game where most of the forum was admit crying because we were about to start with him and King I've had faith in him. Always looked solid yet unspectacular. Can be a bit off the pace at times but plays his role very well in this division. Shrewd by Pearson to keep him in as he obviously knew what he was capable of.

Not to say he's set the world alight, he's not going to be the difference in winning games which is what we're going to be needing soon.

What teams has that been against though?

I like him, he reminds me of Richie Wellens

well as we have only won 4 and he's been involved in 3. the maths shouldn't be too difficult. lol

saturday was the first time i wouldn't have played him but we still won. i'd have him in for most the "big" games, especially away from home. i would've said we didn't need him for a home game against a spectacularly bad villa side as most his defensive work would be redundant and we'd be better putting someone more creative in there, but nige knows best and it worked, we kept a clean sheet and definitely didn't have a lack of chances.

Too many variables.  There have been other changes to the team and the formation that have affected results, plus confidence.  Hammond does valuable work for the team, should be enough to either start or be on the bench.

I agree there are many variables, however it is a startling difference even if I wouldn't go anywhere near suggesting he is the sole reason behind our 2 dramatic shifts in form.

why do we need another hammond thread ?

It's absolutely vital to everyone connected with the club as well as to the players friends and family. Besides which I couldn't be arsed to trawl the forum to find somewhere else to put it and feel free not to read it.

Frankly I think it's a coincidence. I can't see what he does in a match that makes a huge positive difference. He's a poor passer, doesn't track runners particularly well and we have better tacklers in the team. And I have watched him more closely than any other player, in an attempt to work out what people see in him.

He was decent on Saturday but I still wouldn't say he was one of our better players on the day, let alone in general.

I think he's been great this season.

If he could pass then he'd be a great player but unfortunately he can't so in many ways he's a bit of a 'make do'. What he lacks in quality on the ball he makes up for in work rate and in setting the tone for the team however.

Playing against a Leicester side who have Dean Hammond kicking people and disrupting your rhythm makes it much harder than when there isn't someone doing that. Whilst James, King, Drinkwater and Cambiasso undoubtedly have more ability, they don't have the 'defensive edge' that Hammond has.

Think he slows us down too much when we're in possession but he is great at breaking up play and has done well for us.

Cant argue against that record. He has made more of an impression on me this season that Drinky. If you told me that preseason I would have shit myself.
