How do you best utilise Cambiasso in the next 3 fixtures?

He is too valuable to us to play against Chelsea, I understand that he is an athlete but pulls & knocks occur when a player gets overused & we need him to finish the season for us.

I was thinking maybe play Hammond against Chelsea, but do we want to bring someone in in such a big game who hasn't played for so long? It's a big risk imo.

From what I've seen King and Drinkwater don't seem to work very well together. I'd be tempted with James/Drinky against Chelsea.

Is it really a risk when the chances of getting anything much out of the game are fairly slim anyway?

I think Drinkwater is better suited to Burnley than Cambi. We need a midfielder who can get stuck in and still get up front to knock in the loose balls from the Vardy saves. Cambi can play against slower paced teams like Chelsea.

He's averaging 11km a game. That's 33km in the space of 7 days. Too much for a 34 year old and it massively increases the risk of injury. He will play the full 90 at Burnley and have his minutes reduced heavily in the Chelsea game and go from there.

You cannot pick and choose where and when you pick up points. Play the best team you can as often as you can.

This. Especially at this stage of the season, forfeiting matches is not an option.

Cambiasso starts. If he gets knackered, then he gets knackered and we haul him off.

Don't want him to burn out too early.

Played the full amount (Just about, one 85) in the last nine games.

He played eight games not even full 90s before he was rested over Christmas in the rotation.

I think Chelsea's a perfect game to give Cambiasso a rest, although he'll love to play against Mou as he missed the corresponding fixture, and I'm pretty sure Mou DOESN'T want to play against Cambi, Mou rates him highly.

So I actually suspect 90 vs Burnley / 60 vs Chelsea and so on.

I expect he will be desperate to play against Chelsea. Don't be shocked if he's rested against burnley. If we're going to play a high tempo game then we should be able to cope without him. It's up to him and the fitness staff. If he's happy to play then maybe Nigel will continue to pick him.

That won't happen, it doesn't make sense. He would then be doubtful against Newcastle, he will play Burnley if fit. Chelsea and Newcastle will be considered but I wouldn't be surprised to see home rested for Chelsea.

Seems an obvious one to me, 2 full games in the Burnley and Newcastle game where we have a very good chance of takong 6 points. Get the younger fresh legs in vs Chelsea.

I have faith in the backroom staff though whatever they decide is manageable, they are the experts.

I would rest him against chelsea. He needs to be playing In games where we have more of a chance of controlling as that's what he does For us.

think we should have a bit more faith fellas. rest him vs burnley cos we'll get three points with our reserves there, play him to guarantee we don't slip up and not beat chelsea, then probs give him half an hour vs newcastle to put the icing on the cake.

I understand you can't pick and choose where you pick up points, but we want the same Cambiasso who has been so influential in our recent performances playing for us, not a knackered one who will be far less effective. Of course he COULD start all 3 games and play 80-90mins in all of them, but will that make him less effective in both the Chelsea and the Newcastle game, as apposed to resting him in one or the other so people who are 100% fit can have a bigger impact on the game than a struggling Cambiasso?

I'd start him in the 2 weekend games and rest him in the midweek one, and not because I think we are any more or less likely to pick up points off Chelsea, I really think we can get a result against them if we play to our strengths, I just think having a week in between games is the best way to utilise him.

60 Burnley 60 Chelsea and 90 Newcastle

or

90 Burnley 0 Chelsea and 90 Newcastle.

The fact Hammond was playing for U21's yesterday suggests Nigel wants him in contention.

I'd like to see Cambiasso and King for 90 mins vs Burnley and Newcastle and then a central 3 vs Chelsea of King, Hammond (Slightly behind) and James

Play him against Burnley and Newcastle. Play a 3 of King, Drinky and Hammond against chelsea

Makes good sense, though I would be tempted to play James instead of King. Gamble that last season's combo of James & Drinky could be rekindled (both will be rested and raring to go, Drinky showed signs of his old self last Satday), with Hammond behind them. We can compete better for the midfield and release Drinky. Hammond will also be raring to go, and to repeat his effective containing job of the away fixtue. It would give King, as well as Camby, a rest, enabling them to roar back against Newcastle.

Position-wise, nothing needs changing. It's been too long since we had a proper, box-to-box midfield general in the centre of the park, and Lestafan is doing it just fine. If fitness is the worry, which I've seen nothing in the last few games to suggest, then as others have said, I'd do a straight swap for Hammond, who does the defensive side of the game that bit better but doesn't have the same attacking flair.

I still think our current midfield (Schlupp, King, Cambiasso, Albrighton, Kramaric/Nugent/Vardy at AMF) in a 3-5-2 needs to be our first choice for the rest of the season. I wouldn't oppose maybe moving King into that AMF role to allow either Hammond, Drinky or James to come in if necessary - especially since Danny played well last weekend.

Ohhh, it's nice to have a dilemma with the midfield - they're doing a grand job at the minute!  :scarf:

yeah, he can play gainst Chelsea if he thinks he can manage it but against newcastle, Hull and Sunderland play Drinky.

Drinkwater was one of our worst players today.

Yeah I didn't think Cambiasso played well but if you thought Drinkwater was significantly better than him today you need your eyes examined.

That's your opinion. I thought he did really well. Broke up a lot of passes. Harried players all the time and got up in attacking positions. We had a midfielder who played far worse - loose passes inability to get back, unable to harry players and even not putting free kicks on target. Against teams like Burnley you need legs in midfield.
