weller54 Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 After last seasons 14th finish (God knows how!)... I wonder if it was viewed by the owners as an over achievement by Pearson and if we were to progress further that we needed a Manager at the helm with far more experience and know-how?.. His replacement will tell us all.. And if it's the likes of Sean Dyche then I'm Barking up the wrong tree!
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Was he even given a chance to take us any further? Every year we improved on the last so that logic is quite frankly horse shit.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Absolutely not, don't be a turd. The slump last season was down to players' and Pearson's lack of experience, and we still ended up 14th. I reckon if Pearson was still in charge, we'd finish this season 10th or higher, was confident of it
Guest MattP Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 No. We kept finishing higher every season than the previous one and we are currently still sit top of the Premier League form table (I wonder if any manager has ever been sacked whilst being in that position) Given we were starting to add to this and all the positivity around the club I would have put my house on us managing to up our position again towards midtable. But that's not good enough, some people want to be a Southampton and they want to be one now, and those people will probably get what they deserve.
Finnegan Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 No. He's learned progressively from most of his mistakes and is still growing and learning.
shen Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 We'll never know will we? I wholeheartedly believe he could've led us to a top 10 finish.
midland_red Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 No. He had learned from his mistakes, found the formula that works and had planned for the next step forward
lgfualol Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 We don't know as he wasn't given a chance at another season. With the initial signings he made, Huth and Fuchs we looked like we were on the right path to a mid table team.
Jazzy_Jeff Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 We would have finished higher next season than last. Nailed on. He won't of been sacked based on results/performance.
weller54 Posted 1 July 2015 Author Posted 1 July 2015 We would have finished higher next season than last. Nailed on. He won't of been sacked based on results/performance. That wouldn't have been the case after the first 29 games of last season though?
yorkie1999 Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 I was looking forward to kicking on from last season.
Aus Fox Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 If that was true I feel a replacement would already have been lined up. It seems as simple as a disagreement between Pearson and the owners, over what is pure speculation. But I have no doubt had Pearson stayed we would have continued to improve, could he bridge the gap between say8th/9th and the European places? We will never know. I have no doubt under Pearson we could have built to a Swamsea/Stoke position.
RowlattsFox Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 We'll never know. I must admit despite the end of the last season I had doubts that we would continue into the new season, remember Sunderland finished the season excellently under Poyet but were then shit again the following season. I think this has always had the potential to happen. I'd like to have seen him given the chance to push on though.
indierich06 Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Seeing as he's improved us every single season he's been here, I can't see any justification for the 'taken us as far as he can' viewpoint whatsoever.
Wymsey Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 No. I think he struggled, initially, last season as he was trying to get to grips with different types of Premiership styles of play. His very attacking stance from the second half of the season suggests that Pearson would've been capable of doing a Swansea.
shailen Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 No he could have made us a top half PL team and may well have won us a cup competition. Since he's been with us, it has always been an upward trajectory and with the signings we made with the current squad, that would have continued imo. Whoever comes in will not be as successful, because they need to know the players, imprint their style on the team which will take time and not necessarily be successful. It's one step forward then two steps back for me. We could well be relegated next season. Our success was in large part down to the togetherness of the squad, since the Watford game. its a cliche, but it really felt like a family. We still have the same core that we had 3 seasons ago, and with a new manager I hope that does not change. Guaranteed that some players will want to leave.
Captain... Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 We will never know, but seemingly it wasn't about our on field ability, so it is a moot point, could Pearson have got us any further without the trust and backing of the board?
foxfanazer Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Just to add....... NO! No facts or trends to back up that theory whatsoever
Corky Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 No, if it was a football decision he'd have gone in March.
artursteppe Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 I do think Pearson has been on a learning curve and at times it seemed to take an interminable age for the 'penny to drop'. He isn't as intelligent as he thinks he is, and although I think he would have continued to move us up the table, it does not mean there are not better options for us. Always a risk with choosing a new manager, but we need the next one to be better than the last. Pearson did OK, but let us not be blinded by the last 14 games, maybe we would do well to form a little perspective and remember Pearson's persistant arrogance, because just like most managers he was not as good as he thought he was.
NeilLCFC Posted 1 July 2015 Posted 1 July 2015 Not even close to where he could have taken us. Could have become our Fergie. He must be gutted that he isn't able to finish the project that he started.
