Why are we on about VIlla. His last job was Sunderland many years ago.

He was sacked with them in the bottom 3 after spending a fair bit on the likes of Fletcher and Johnson wasn't he?

Had the good fortune to be introduced to him at the QPR away game the season before last. We had a nice little chat where he told me he thought we would be promoted that season. It was a really nice 5/10 minute chat, which concluded with me saying "you know what, you will have to come back one day".

His reply was, "you know what, I will have too" before we shook hands and went our separate ways.

I must admit at the time I went cold when he said he would have to come back. I was a massive fan of his and he left me with the thought that one day he would return.

Not too sure about this. Hasn't been very successful in recent years really. But you never know.

Think I would have preferred that Gourvennec guy though.

Tbf although I agree that they've gone downhill since O'Neill left, I wouldn't call them a deluded club given everything they've won. They are a big club.

True to an extent but times change. They havn't won anything since 1987 (apart from the Intertoto). Any delusions of grandeur should have vanished within the last 27 years.

When did they last win anything????

I dunno I'm not a Villa fan. But if we're going on winning trophies nowadays the only big clubs in the Country would be Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

I will be gutted if this doesn't happen now

Just said the same to my brother.  Imagine the excitement of this and then Preki being announced instead!?!

They still see themselves as perennial top-4 contenders though, which they're obviously not. MON got them the closest they've been for years, but it still wasn't good enough for them. They're like Real Madrid fans, only three hundred thousand times more deluded.

He had no money at Villa, that is why he left. It was going to be a downward spiral from that point for them.

The fit is better for us. The Thais will invest and he will expect it. Could work

I feel happy, worried, excited, disappointed and pretty much every other emotion you can think of. There is such a pull between heart and head it's difficult to really put down in writing what I think just yet, I'm not sure I know.

I know yea, I'm not denying that in fact I said it myself, but they are a big club. That's what I was arguing.

Its a different time though. In many ways he will be hoping to do exactly what he did back then, consolidate as a top 10 team.

Could you imaging the roar he will get every time he comes out with the team as the conquering hero of Leicester.  Every fan will clap him and make him feel very welcome.  He is a known entity in the city and it could fit the bill to fix the disappointment of Pearson's sacking.

Or a football fan by the looks of things. We have won more in recent times than villa. As deluded as Newcastle.fans

Doesn't make us a bigger club. Villa have spent how many consecutive years in the top flight?

Weird... Who said anything about being a bigger club? Oddball.

Bert,

What is the cost of having high expectations. Would we not for any manager replacing Pearson. We should have high expectations. This could be just what MON and the club need. Each other. His last great hoorah and us bringing back the prodigal son. What a great story. What is the downside really. if he does a terrible job, then he loses his job just like any manager would, but if he does take us to mid tier or above, then it will be the perfect result.

The ultimate cost is disappointing. Plenty of people will be expecting him to work the same miracles he did dirst time. If he doesn't people will be disappointed and that's all he'll be remembered for.
