Thracian Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Much as I've loved his entertainment value and breathtaking talent at times I agree with those who've said he's the last kind of player who would suit our style for all that he'd add a bit of glamour to our team. We're like the Musketeers - All for One And One For All - and I don't see Berbatov as that kind of footballer. He was never the most energetic when I've watched him and his still-deft touches will be no compensation for the effort needed to turn narrow survival last season into a genuine challenge for a place in or around top six. That's not to say I'd never want a charismatic artiste within our ranks. I'd just want him to be more of a contributor when we're struggling. George Best was all tricks and wizardry but, my life, did he work hard and battle for the ball when he had to. Ronaldo too, when at Manchester United, used to do his fair share of donkey work. Berbatov is much more of a luxury and I don't see the likes of Vardy and co being much impressed by what I regard as a bit-part player - brilliant or otherwise. If he does join us and proves me wrong I'll be ddelighted to acknowledge it because he's an eminently watchable player with considerable achievement to his name.
oxford blue Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 There appears to be no basis for this story; I can't see City being remotely interested. Just doesn't fit in with the squad we have and their work ethic on the pitch.
ARM1968 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Beliall- it was my mum and she'd been dead 3 years.
Clever Fox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I think he is being used as a pawn to get a decision out of someone else. I can't see us being seriously interested.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I think Ranieri signed him for Monaco? It's probably just lazy journalism putting 2 and 2 together.
Samilktray Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I think people need to stop being silly. He may be a bit lazy but he's not at all a bad footballer, he was tremendous in his prime.
MC Prussian Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 We're obviously linked to all still living former and current AS Monaco players thanks to the Ranieri connection.
Finnegan Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I think people need to stop being silly. He may be a bit lazy but he's not at all a bad footballer, he was tremendous in his prime. Technically brilliant footballer and an absolute genius when he wants to be. Still wouldn't have him anywhere near our current team, even in his prime. He'd be totally wasted and we'd have to completely carry him defensively. Vardy and Okazaki/Ulloa/Nugent lead our defence and it's very important they do that from the front.
TheLittleBigMan Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Our teams about pace and work ethic - neither things he has in his locker. No thanks.
benpicko Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 So this is just three pages of people saying 'No thanks m8' and nothing else right?
RedSoxUK Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I'm afraid... And I do actually believe this - he's not good enough for us.
iamafox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 We need grafters in our team and Berbatov isn't one of them. He might conjure up a piece of brilliance once in a while but he's past his best and wouldn't improve what we already have up front. He will only come for a huge paycheck and drag other players down.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Fantastic talent but as mentioned just wouldn't fit into our team right now. Shows how far we've come in less than a decade when one minute we're all salivating over Carl Cort on a freebie then saying no to Berbatov. YUH
smudger63 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Talented player, no doubt about that, but It`s a no for me, simply because i don`t see him being a player that is suited to working hard, pressing the ball and giving 100 per cent in every game, and so wouldn`t fit in to the way we are trying to play at the moment.
BoneDog Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Offer him a pay-as-you-play contract £350 appearance fee, £25,000 goal bonus.
enmac Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 i disagree. I dont think we can hope to play the way we did on Saturday every game this season. That was the only trouble with Pearson. when we played our attacking style against certain teams it didn't work. We have to adapt and have a couple of different styles of play. There will be times when we need to keep hold of the ball and not let the other team have all the possession we are still not very good at that style of play imo. Some time we will need our strikers to hold up the play keep possession. Not necessarily Berbatov though.Agree, I think. Can imagine being bombarded away by man city/chelsea. Would be good to have someone receiving a long ball, who could hold onto it for 5 seconds or more. Hard to be objective about him though. Memory of him at spurs/ manu cfw fulham makes it difficult to judge. Heart says yes.
Hack Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 If there is any truth in us going after Berbatov then I am sure it will be for use in a different setup and style then how we played on Saturday. Could be a a very good option late in games as a genuine target man who knows his way to goal. This is if true is a threat to Ulloa role in the club.
Loggy88 Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 I don't want Berbatov, really don't see him suiting the team and the style, and I don't think we need another striker. He is a luxury player in the sense that when things don't go our way, he has not got the right attitude to work and graft for the team.
davieG Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 We need forwards that defend from the front as our current defence is not good enough. It was noticeable on Saturday that as our forwards tired or were replaced the defence came under more direct pressure they crumbled somewhat. To accommodate players like him you need to upgrade the quality of the whole team you can't just parachute someone like that in and hope it works.

sylofox Posted 11 August 2015 Posted 11 August 2015 Would rather keep Nuge better work rate and a lower wage and won't upset the squad.
