The Doctor Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Why are people moaning about Vardy not getting into the team then (even though he is ) they should be happy or at least indifferent. Because this pretty much explains why people are so fed up of England - it's the same old shite getting picked because they play for a big club, and those performing well not getting a fair crack because their club isn't fashionable enough. Seeing Vardy get in is great, but seeing him being treated like just a space filler rather than the most in-form striker in the country is absolutely galling.
Matt Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 What ever happened to the" club over country" and" I don't care about England" attitude I used to read about on here with regularity? It's actually pushing me further away and annoying me even more. I watch and comment in hope but just become more frustrated.
Webbo Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Nobody would have thought Vardy would get anywhere near the England squad at the start of the year, now they're moaning that they're not building the team around him and the people moaning the most are those who say they don't care about England. For those of us who've always cared about England and always want us to do well it just seems a little hypocritical.

I don't think anyone expects the team to be built around him, but to see him get even 1 spell in his position is not too much to ask, it should really have been a given. As for the people moaning the most being the people who put club over country, do you honestly not see why? They're tuning in purely for Vardy, supporting England purely because of Vardy, so that he's not been given even half a chance so far is compounding their dislike of England.

For those of us who've always cared about England and always want us to do well it just seems a little hypocritical. I for one don't expect the team to be built around him, all I ask for is for him to be given a chance in his most effective position, instead of playing him in an ineffective position and making him look useless. Use him where he is useful or don't use him at all.

I've been reading the same rubbish on here since 2006 so it's nothing to do with vardy. Anyway I thought you were Scottish? I'd love to see Vardy given his chance in the middle and I suspect we will at some point during the forthcoming friendlies. People are just over reacting to a few comments probably meant to dampen down the hype.
Soar Fox Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 Definitely club over country for me. I'll watch England games and want Vardy to do well other than that I couldn't careless how England get on. Same when England played Denmark a couple of years ago I watched the match because Kasper played. I actually wanted him to keep a clean sheet that night aswell.

I'd love to see Vardy given his chance in the middle and I suspect we will at some point during the forthcoming friendlies. People are just over reacting to a few comments probably meant to dampen down the hype. Eh? People are complaining about Vardy not being treated right by England and it's nothing to do with Vardy? People will have been complaining about England being dull to watch and a bit shit since 2006 because it's true and will have lost any interest in England because they've not bothered to do anything other than go through the big fours squads and shoe-horn their English players into a formation (with no regards to balance) in quite a long time, but the increase in complaining will be because these people are tuning it to watch England because of club representation. I am, but I'm watching England at the moment for Vardy, just as I've tended to watch Wales when they've been on for King.
ARTY_FOX Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 I always watched and supported England but since vardy has been involved I've started to lose all intrest. Keep hoping it'll change but it never will.
Webbo Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 When we didn't have anyone in the squad it was club over country, as if anything England did affected us in anyway. Now if anyone was truly club over country they'd want Vardy not to play for England in case he got injured or the exertion of midweek games and travel affected his form.

maddog Posted 8 November 2015 Posted 8 November 2015 England's problem is we have no footballing identity. We aren't Van Gaal type side, possession and attrition, we aren't a Wenger type side pass and move try and score the perfect goal, or a Klopp, high energy high pressing, Guardiola, tiki taka, with quick pressing when lose the ball and then drop deep. We don't play fast counter attacking football, we don't have a couple of super stars to build a team around, we just have a team of 11 decent players, who just go out and play football without any real direction or purpose safe in the knowledge we have better individuals than most nations in qualifying, but we also know we will never beat a top nation as we don't have any x factor. That is why Hodgson prefers Kane, because he is what he is, a centre forward, you play him up front and hope he sticks one in, he doesn't really know how to get the best from Walcott, Vardy, Barkley, Lalana even Rooney and he is making the usual mistake of picking the best 11 English players and trying to get them to play his way (uninspired). You have two options, decide how you want to play and pick the best players for that formation, or pick your best players and find the formation that suits them. This is so evident with Vardy, if you are not going to play him in a way that allows him to run in behind and exploit the space behind defenders, just don't pick him, there are better left wingers out there, you would be better off picking Albrighton if you want someone to play like that. That's not say Vardy has to play up front, he can play wide left as long as he is given license to play on the shoulder of the last defender and the midfield look for the ball in behind for him to run on to. Correct. When Hodgson got the job I'm pretty sure he said he wanted to change things. Well for me he simply hasn't and if anything we have gone backwards, or at least just stagnated under his leadership. I will be shell shocked if he gets a new contract now, unless we have our best run in the Euros since 1996.

filbertway Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 Why are people moaning about Vardy not getting into the team then (even though he is ) they should be happy or at least indifferent. Mainly because some people do and some people don't. Foxestalk doesn't just have one collective opinion. If that doesn't win me the "Most Obvious Statement" award in the end of year awards then there's no justice!

Countryfox Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 If they don't give it to him the awards a farce. Oh come on ! .... surely there is a Chelski player that deserves it more than him !!
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 Correct. When Hodgson got the job I'm pretty sure he said he wanted to change things. I will be shell shocked if he gets a new contract now, unless we have our best run in the Euros since 1996. I agree, but I'd go further and suggest he should have gone after Brazil - the worst tournament performance England have produced. He's clearly got no blueprint for how the team should play other than at a slow pace like much of international football has been played for the last 30 years. I don't think it's too difficult to improve England's chances of doing better in the latter stages of these tournaments. We've tried for years at 'playing in the style of international football' with no joy. Imo England should play a counter attacking game - the opposite of what they have been doing - playing to our strengths, using the pace of players such as Vardy, Walcott, Oxlade Chamberlain and the like. International defenders are no different to any others - quick and direct attackers are what they don't want to see running at them. That's contrary to what they face most of the time, and it's a ploy that could work for England. All that said, none of that will happen while old Woy is at the helm, who's main job now appears to be giving plaudits to Rooney and extending his run as England's main attacker, despite all evidence indicating he should at best be dropped back into a midfield role.
4everfox Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 On current form Vardy is unmistakably the best English striker in the world and should be ahead of Rooney and Kane in the pecking order on merit. He should definitely play against France and Spain in his favoured position, those fixtures are the kind he would thrive in. Vardy must start up front in at least one of those matches.
Jack1993 Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 No idea if this has already been mentioned but I had a quick read and couldn't see anything... "Vardy's first four games for his country have not brought a goal, but that's not the whole story. In 202 minutes with him on the pitch, England have scored 10 goals without reply. From Stocksbridge to St George's Park, Jamie Vardy is a winner. Let's find out what Spain and France make of him" I'd never noticed this before, do we think he actually played a huge part in this or would the 10 goals have come anyway? Full article here.. http://www.skysports.com/football/news/18804/10061116/can-jamie-vardy-succeed-with-england-history-is-on-his-side
Corky Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 The only goal he played a part in was Sterling's against Estonia.

Dan Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 England's problem has long been that they make decisions on players being good enough and never waiver from that. Kane, Rooney, Wishere, Stones, Barkley, Alli, all at different stages of their career, but all guaranteed to be England regulars, regardless of form or fitness. Only a major injuries will keep them out (and sometimes even that doesn't.) The likes of Vardy, Shelvey, Bertrand etc, have to do ten times more just to get a sniff. We'll never get anywhere if players don't have to work hard and play well to earn their place in the team. Hodgson has it backwards over Dier too. A players in a "lesser" team that's doing as well or better than someone in a "better" team is surely more worthy of a call up. Surely having better player (in Hodgson's eyes anyway) along side you makes your job easier, so your form is less impressive. I do agree with this although my Spurs mate absolutely raves about Dier. Reckons he'll be huge for them and England, so might be something in it. It's call ups like Delph over Drinkwater that get me.
Alexikokopops Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 Don't worry, I appreciated this. Post of the year imo
Jack1993 Posted 9 November 2015 Posted 9 November 2015 The only goal he played a part in was Sterling's against Estonia. Yeah, I suppose I meant indirectly would England have a much worse return without him on the pitch? It's obviously difficult to tell but i just wondered what people thought
