Depression

Recommended Posts

@HighPeakFox @somebum @Harrydc and countless other posts I'll have missed in this thread - keep your chins up during the bleak times and focus on the reality that everything passes. Not.in the sense of going away completely but if you can learn to deal with the lows more effectively, they pass by more quickly. I suffer from body dysmorphia (and as a result depression and anxiety) so these cycles happen to me as well, and certain things bring it on predictably, but there is a lot you can do to toughen your mind up.

Anyone who is willing to be openminded should have a go at compassion focused therapy. Something a bit different that requires patience initially but people seem to respond very well to it. Google it.

Crippling today.

Like really.

Ready to crawl in to a hole and wait for this to all be over. I really hate Christmas, absolute minefield of so many surpressed issues.

I also hate that hating Christmas is some sort of ridiculous big deal to everyone, oh you scrooge, ha ha ha, etc.

Things will be more 'normal' in just over a week, Finnegan.

I know you've mentioned a few times of your feelings /personal situation n recent weeks, but just hold in there as unfortunately feelings/things may have to seem worse before they can get better etc which can be the 'only way out'.

Not really in the festive mood myself as have own personal matters, though it does feel like as if I'm/you etc are the only ones with problems at times for sure, but know I have a family that's very supportive and have to put things into perspective and appreciate what In have etc.

Just glad there's a flurry of football and alcohol to hopefully enjoy.

Currently in my second home JR Hospital Oxford on morphine and other drips.

Had a really bad Crohn’s attack on my j-pouch and I’m waiting for an x Ray. Could end up in here over Xmas which would be fvcking great.

My depression started 15 years ago when I first got ill and it’s all interlinked for me.

Stay fit and healthy guys. Look after yourself and your bodies. Healthy body healthy mind etc..

That's a real shitter Izzy, sorry to hear it.

I've said this before but I'm confident many others would agree that your contribution to this thread has been and continues to be very significant.

It's a testament to your character that you are so often able to find it within yourself to offer such positive, personal and useful words to so many, myself included. I do what I can but I often don't know what to say and I honestly do not know how you do it so frequently - and whilst going through your own issues with both your physical and mental health at the same time too. You are clearly a very caring, supportive & resilient bloke.

I hope the effects of your Crohns subside and that you're out of the hospital and up to speed to enjoy the festivities soon mate.

@Izzy Muzzett echoing what others have said, what rubbish timing, hope you are out for Christmas! But if not al least you'll have people visiting and realise how much everyone cares about you

And @Finnegan@Wymeswold fox dunno what to say other than the Christmas period will be over pretty quickly. This is maybe patronising, but could going into it without preconceptions help?

Bad news, I feel for you Izzy.  Depression linked to illness is more normal than the persistent depression some feel without cause, if you didn't feel down when you were ill then that would be unusual, so you're probably sane.  You can have a healthy mind in an unhealthy body, ask Mr Hawking.

Just keep posting if you feel up to it.  You raise the spirits of a lot of us on FT, some of us even laugh at your jokes.  Get well soon mate.

There's a thread waiting to happen! I'm somewhere between ambiguous and non-plussed about Christmas. Actually only remember decent Christmases, but I find the whole thing regurgitatingly commercialised these days.

But I'm sorry to hear a few of you are having all these struggles when others can enjoy their Christmas. If anyone needs well-wishes it's you.

It's about family really, the core of it. The bottom line is that my family was a mess and that's had a deep impact on me. Christmas is the most "family" time of the  in the twenty first century in the western world and unfortunately that makes it the most triggering time of the year for me.

Can’t help but notice how supportive you are of other people so you really do deserve some good times yourself.

Yeah I can imagine that Christmas is a harrowing thing, particularly in troubled families.

But I suppose that, in recent years, it's more and more common that the families become fragmented and Christmas is celebrated with just the spouse/partner and kids.

Or even singles or couples escaping abroad over the festive period under the pretense to 'get away from the cold' and 'take advantage of cheap prices'. Maybe that will be possible for you too at some point.

Yeah it’s awful, I think I would be lost if I didn’t have Christmas to look forwards too. All the best izzy, I hope you feel well enough to get back to your family for Xmas day.

There have been a few occasions where I've been in a country at Xmas where it's not celebrated, so it's just another day.

Feels pretty weird.

Thanks mate :)

Still in hospital waiting for the consultant to come and tell me my fortune.

Scans show some sort of blockage/twist/stricture/adhesion and still nil by mouth 48 hours on :(

My guess is I might need to go down into theatre for them to operate on it which means I’ll be here for at least another 3-5 days.

Happy fvcking Christmas everyone!!!
