International Champions Cup

Recommended Posts

Barcelona are going to the British side of Europe for their preseason, and have some good matches to play.

According to Catalan newspaper Ara, the champions of Spain, who have decided not to make a big summer tour for their preseason, will make a short trip to England for their entire preparation for the new campaign. And they have scheduled three competitive games for that trip.

Under the umbrella of the now prestigious International Champions Cup preseason tournament, the Catalan giants will face Premier League sensation and potential shocking champions Leicester City, and England's most decorated club, Liverpool, with dates yet to be determined. The Blaugranes will also face Scotland champions Celtic, this match reportedly set to be played in Dublin, Ireland on July 30.

The decision to train and play in England for the entire preseason was made after a loud and clear request from players and coaching staff because of the tough schedule after this season is over. If the Blaugrana reach the Champions League Final, they will play 65 total games across all competitions, the most ever in club history. After that, nearly all squad members will join their national teams for the 2016 Euros, the Copa America Centenarioand the Olympics.

With very few weeks to rest and recover from the hectic club campaign and the difficult international tournaments, the squad and coach Luis Enrique do not want to travel to the United States or Asia and trade vital moments of training and physical preparation for countless hours of plane rides and hotel check-ins.

Instead, football's finest will go to football's birthplace. That should be fun.

Leicester City Chief Executive Susan Whelan said: "An invitation to participate in the International Champions Cup highlights the significant impression the Club is making on an international audience. We are delighted to be involved in this year's competition. It will form part of a carefully planned pre-season programme that has worked extremely well in recent years – including a week-long training camp in Austria and selected domestic friendly fixtures.

"The ICC is a great opportunity to compete with some of Europe’s leading clubs and to further promote the Club, and the city of Leicester, around the world.”

Matches like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at MetLife Stadium and Real Madrid vs. Chelsea at the Big House in Michigan demonstrates the elite competition the ICC stands for. We are continuing to set the gold standard for soccer in America and abroad and are excited for summer to start.”

Any spare references

Haha no need for references for this one I think. For the American leg, I know you buy directly from the vendor (that's how American ticketing works) and those usually don't sell out.

Prices aren't very pretty though (why they don't sell out), they usually start at $75 USD (so ~50 quid) if I recall correctly for the USA games.

LA game will very likely be at StubHub Center in Carson (in South LA). It's a ~25k seater where LA Galaxy -- Stevie G's team -- plays.
