He looks a tidy player for sure but I'm of the opinion if you're not creating goals and you're not stopping them then what are you doing?

 

I realise this is over simplistic before someone pulls me up on it.

It's very hard to tell really as it depends how he was played at Nice, their fans and the press over their seem to rate him highly though, so he must be doing something right. From the few highlights I can find he seems to sit very deep for them.

Looking at his stats overall he seems to have very good ball retention, good passing... but he doesn't create much, doesn't play many key passes. He has a good interception rate but not much to write home about in terms of tackles.

The stats don't strike you are particularly defensive or particularly attacking, but someone who keeps it all ticking over in the middle. Not sure where that fits in with us playing two in the middle... but it would more so if we switched to a three.

I would be surprised if we didn't play three in the middle at times, considering how many games we'll have next season.

Already made 200 club appearances at aged 23, very good. I'm getting very excited at the thought of Kante, Mendy and Amartey as a midfield three, absolute engine room.

Potential midfield options could be excellent next season. All sorts of formation combinations we can play.

I've reacted at the beginning of the tread.

 

For me, it is an excellent signing, and it worth the price. He is a brilliant defensive midfield, tackles the ball and recover possessions very effectively. He is a midget so you can't expect him to be very efficient if it is just kick & rush, he needs a more ball on the ground style of play. He has a very good passing accuracy, however, it is easy passes. You can't expect him to be a Kanté like because he is far from being box to box like him. This season, he was playing 6 in a 4-4-2 in diamond, and passing to its two 8's and 10's (which were brilliant as well, Ben Arfa, everyone knows him, but keep an eye on Seri & Koziello, they'll go far). Therefore, he would have struggled a bit I guess in this season scheme unless Claudio changes him (and he can). But if there is players in front of him to carry the ball forward, everything will be ok, and the defense will enjoy very relaxed games.

 

Also, he was the captain at 23, so it tells you a bit about its spirit. And the cherry on the cake, he as made 110 starts on 114 matchs for the last 3 seasons, this guy is never injured nor tired nor suspended, and this is priceless.

Never, but I'm going to hype him up anyway. Could be the best signing of the Summer.

These are the days I miss Sven. He'd have £200m worth of euro trash signed already with more in the pipeline. OK, he wouldn't have considered personalities and how they'd all fit into a system but it would be one hell of a ride!
