foxes_rule1978 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Just don't understand this. He's throwing away a team built around him that suits him perfectly, a squad he's called brothers, fans that love him, guaranteed first-team football and Champions League football next season. For what? Money and the 'prestige' of playing for a bigger club. It's a huge gamble. I couldn't think of a club with a style of play that suits him less. It'll be like the England - Portugal for him every week. Agents have a big hand in things like this...
apple987 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Now we know why Arsene Wenger was watching the England game the other day Could explain vardy having a poor game too. Probably desperate not to get injured
yorkie1999 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I think this guy just might be a bit more useful than originally thought.
filbertstreet Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 it's arsenal, they'll bottle the transfer somehow
Buzzell Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 PlanetRock have just said Arsenal are pushing the deal through Well we all know PlanetRock is the number one place for all the transfer gossip.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 On the plus side at least everyone will stop being Leicester on Fifa next year Guaranteed starter for sure now he is a so called big four player
pSinatra Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 He has been hawked to every top club going by his agent. Only Arsenal have made a move for him. It doesn't seem like he thinks Arsenal are his best option.....they are his only option. Why aren't the others interested in him? Arsenal don't have the pulling power they think they have & can't attract the very best players. They always strike me as a bit desperate in the transfer market, picking up what's left after all the world class players have moved to their rivals. He quite clearly doesn't wasn't to stay at Leicester & wants to earn silly money playing for a big club. Of all the 'big clubs', Arsenal are the least likely to win anything. He will be earning crazy money & living close to the capital. I don't think he will be progressing his career any (apart from possibly playing up front for England). He's cashing in whilst his stock is high. It's sad that he has decided to move on & not for footballing reasons.
MC Prussian Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I think you've taken my post the wrong way, or maybe I didn't word it quite as articulately as I should have. Yes I'm annoyed at the thought of our top scorer and best striker in years leaving for a club I hate and who we've just competed with for the last year, in fact I'm ****ing fuming. I just hope Walsh and co can resurrect our squad after this summer. Sorry to offend anyone on here but I'm desperate for my club not to become a Sunderland etc, happy to just scrape survival and maybe get to Wembley once a decade. I'm probably more annoyed at Vardy because he just led the fans on implying he was going to stay and things have changed so quickly. When's the last time Sunderland won a top division title, though? Call me cynic. I could call you overly romantic. But pledging allegiance to a club or staying at one club for more than just two, three years is an exception in today's market. Saying things and doing things are two entirely different matters. And it's no different in Vardy's case. At some point, we might have to accept that the past season was a unique happening, a feat that won't be repeated for a long, long time. I'm happy with what we've achieved and I am looking forward to European football. Always love the club, nothing else matters.
Wymsey Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I think this guy just might be a bit more useful than originally thought. Is that the real one?
apple987 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Does anyone think his book deal could also be to do with this? He already has a book coming out this year, any future books will want a lot more to tell. If he stayed at Leicester for 4 years and not much happened then what?
Lord Kante Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I'm actually devastated. Why would he? Money obviously. But I cant understand why he'd move? After the season he's had with us. Bring in Musa, Morata and Slimani! Sorted.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Absolute Nineties reporting this now too
Tielemans63 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I love the guy but I have a feeling that we might look back on this and be glad we cashed in when we did. Sometimes the skill in football management* is to recognise when a player is at his max value and cash-in. Let's be honest, a 18 months ago he was worth about £3 million. He has been brilliant for us this year but we are set up totally to play to his strengths, he won't get that at Arsenal. Also, he's nearly 30, he will be a marked man like never before next season and I think he'll find that and trying you prove himself to fans that don't seem to really want him quite a challenge. That's if he goes of course. *PS I'm not suggesting the sale of Vardy is down to 'skill' from our board, I'm talking generally. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
EGBFitness Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Can't wait to see all the cringeworthy songs/chants/tweets etc about Vardy from the Arsenal fans after they've slagged off Leicester all season
Brizzle Fox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I understand what you guys are saying like oh he's a legend he can leave with our blessing etc etc, but we'll never become one of the big boys with this attitude. It's almost like you guys are just grateful for this season and happy to slip back into obscurity. **** that I don't want to become a Southampton or whatever I want to build on what we've got and become one of the big boys. This plucky little Leicester attitude won't keep us at the top This exactly. So many small time attitudes on here. To be honest though not that bothered. In all fairness he has had one really good season. We will replace with better and move on. Although this forum will melt down over the summer as he certainly won't be the last to leave. Our team will look very different next season I suspect. Certainly won't be dull!
foxes_rule1978 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 This is how his agent put it to him... you are 29 coming onto 30 this is a great maybe last chance to earn serious money and playing for a major European outfit... does sound tempting
roblcfc84 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 For me this is an unbelievably naive move on both vardys and arsenals part. A 30 year old with one decent season who lets be fair has looked lost playing a team, England, that isnt built around his skill set.
Buzzell Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Arsenal's style of play does not suit Vardy. Plus we all know Wenger has a reputation of playing players out of position. It will be like watching him for England if he goes to Arsenal. Such a shame. He knows the way we play brings the best out of him.
whoareyaaa Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Surely if his wife is spending the day with her husband then I'm pretty sure he won't be having a medical, maybe a clue in her tweet. Or she'll we just continue to abuse someone's wife when we want them to stay?
Wymsey Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Wonder what his reaction would be if he scores against us...
theessexfox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 It's definitely because of that absolute ****ing weapon of a lookalike.
Viva Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Not sure that's how it works - any contract he signs supersedes the old one. The only thing I can think of is that there was a (much lower) release clause in his old contract and the new contract allowed us to bump it up. Gerard's spot on with his post - we had all the cards before - apparently no release clause and 2.5 years on his contract and we've given it away for what? Probably chucked £10 million out the window for some positive PR in January. Absolutely shoddy management - people saying £20 million is a fair price need to wake up to the fact that it's not 1995 any more. With the new TV deal transfers involving English clubs (especially those between English clubs) are going to involve enormous transfer fees for relatively unproven talent. I've no doubt that somebody would have paid £30 million for Vardy if the clause wasn't there and in any event surely he's a player we want to keep? We've built our team around him. Putting us in a position where we have to sell is madness. Can't blame Vardy for wanting to go at all - obviously it would be better if he didn't say "how could I leave?" but football is fickle and if I had a chance to double my earnings I would. Shoddy management? Without the release clause he would have probably been off in January and we wouldn't have won the league!
