Blue ROI Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 Now that we've won the both the championship and the premier league in 3 seasons I wanted to know what ye thought was the moment that set it all off. Lets say you were doing a tv show/writing a book on how far Leicester City this decade what would be the starting point. When you look back at the 90s I would class as that golden era starting with the claridge playoff goal in 96 and ending with the Wycombe defeat in the 2001 fa cup quarter final. Though worse was to follow that it seemed like the moment where it all went downhill. Having attended the 2010 4-1 win over Watford was the first time in a decade that I suspected the club was on the verge of something before it went quiet. If I was to pinpoint the start of this era it would be the first away win at forest since the early 70s to get into the 2013 playoffs. A real test of character and the late goal to clinch a result that was a bit unLeicester like for the time. There was the heartbreak of Watford a week later but it's seemed to me that since the win in the city ground Leicester City took off in a big way. Any thoughts?
StanSP Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 relegation to league one. the 'blessing in disguise'. let us start fresh so to speak, flush out some rotting deadwood. rebuild.
EGBFitness Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 That Deeney goal v Watford. As NP said they went away and thought of a plan for the next season - we came back with a philosophy - we was quicker, stronger and better than everyone else in the league and think that philosophy has developed under CR. The season we got beat in the semis we was just an average team I'd say, very inconsistent. I think if Knocky scored that penalty and we won the final I think we may of gone back down straight after. Obviously all hyperthetical but don't think the players was ready and we had a real style of play to cut it in the premier league
foxfanazer Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 Pearson's arrival is the obvious one For me when we signed Knockaert our mentality changed and we became genuine promotion contenders. Obviously you can say we've signed players that have gone on to be more important than Knocky but at the time he was a breath of fresh air
The Horse's Mouth Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 Pearson's return I'd say, his first stint was pretty important, but including Sousa and Sven's seasons in the era seems a bit weird.
Webbo Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 Brian Little, back in the 90s. Relegation to league 1 was just a blip.

I like what you said about the Forest win, I remember thinking at the time that no way in hell were we going to do it and it really was not a Leicester thing to do but it happened and I had the biggest high from it, couldn't stop screaming for about 10 mins. I like to think the hurt from "Deeney Day" galvanised the team. It really installed a strong character and belief which has only got stronger and stronger. It really is true that sometimes you have to take one step back to go two steps forward. I still pinch myself over what we've been through over the past few years we're so lucky as I don't think many other teams fans will ever experience the sheer jubilation that we have. Long may it continue.
Brooksy Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 HERES HOGG...............DEENEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Carl the Llama Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 The 2 Pearson stints + Ranieri are what it's all about so I guess the answer has to be the relegation to L1 which prompted the arrival of Nigel the Messiah. Anything in between was just another obstacle for him to overcome as he built a framework that Claudio the Redeemer has refined and capitalised on.
stevelcfc Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 Pearson mark I for the development of the backroom and sport science as much as getting us out of L1 at the first attempt. Arrival of our amazing owners. Arrival of Pearson mark II Deeney day - siege mentality installe Victory against QPR and later on in the season, Burnley (title winning season), the games that seemed to get people dreaming an believing we could once again be a top flight team. Changing to 3 at the back last year. Villa turn around this. Quite a few but all significant in recent years. In some ways you could also look at Sousa/Sven for changing the way we played football, from defensive minded to attacking.
Russell sprout Posted 16 June 2016 Posted 16 June 2016 When Pearson first came and stabilised the club. Il 2nd that
Sampson Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 That Deeney goal v Watford. Obviously all hyperthetical but don't think the players was ready and we had a real style of play to cut it in the premier league It was the run-in before the Deeney goal imo. From 1st Febraury onwards. The run in in that season when were certs for automatic promotion, then won 3 of our last 17 games of the season. It was an utter collapse and a lot of that side were still young and I think it made them all stronger. I seem to remember Drinkwater especially completely going off the boil in that run in despite having a great season up until that point. Imo that run is exactly what motivated them in the title run in this season. That was the experience every non-Leicester gfan said we were lacking in our title run in last season, that was where the mental strength and relentless will to win was built. That whole season from February onwards was just a capitulation and it was that which built us.
BenTheFox Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 relegation to league one. the 'blessing in disguise'. let us start fresh so to speak, flush out some rotting deadwood. rebuild. Agreed. It felt horrendous at the time but we needed a serious wake up call. I wasn't expecting us to rebuild as quickly as we did.
Jonezy Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 Relegation to League 1 and appointment of Pearson started it all. Deeney day galvanized us to promotion and Rachel threads started the unbelievable... Andy King is a good shout too actually....
Bluetintedspecs Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 Agree with the League 1 and NP shouts, the pivotal moment that led to the great escape and last season's momentous Premier League Title win was the Kings late goal against West Ham!
Rob1742 Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 It has been mentioned by people inside the club that Pearson Mark 1 was the start of it all. Sven came in and disturbed it, but from the moment Pearson arrived the current menality started. Ranieri knew he had inherited something very special and so kept it like it was. Pearsons structure and team ethic, together with Ranieri just then needing to add his technical nouse won us the league. Although they were never there at the same time, neither could have won the league without each other's input.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 Pearson's arrival and our season after the Deeney goal. We showed immense character to win the league and comeback positively after the play off disappointment. I do feel we are in the start/middle of a special era for LCFC.
Monsell1976 Posted 17 June 2016 Posted 17 June 2016 The owners coming in, and investing money, something that Leicester hasn't ever had, not on the scale these people have.
