MGLCFC Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 I don't think Mahrez was awful, just his decision making needs to improve. Sometimes the decisions he makes comes off and he looks the world class player he is capable of being. However, like today, he made too many wrong decisions, which made him look poor. Because he is always capable of producing that one bit of magic in a game, he is worth all the frustrations. He must realise he is going to be heavily marked this year and therefore must be smarter at times, mixing it up, in particular releasing the ball earlier. Lastly, no more pens from Riyhad, please.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Amartey was class and so was the side. Looked dodgy in the last ten (when do we not) but it's difficult to play in the counter when your playing on a swamp. Mahrez was
foxinsox Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Mahrez was heavily marked, (Swansea must be afraid after that hattrick) too long dribbling when he should have passed. Also weak defensively and often out of position. Missed penalty - should be his last penalty. His markers did leave space for other players, notably Shinji who would have been MOTM if it wasn't for Amartey, who played a blinder. Conditions were hilarious last 15 min. Ideal for diving!

Amazing that we have England's best central midfielder playing for us. Superb today. Very impressed by Amartey too. Am I the only one who thinks Vardy still isnt quite on his game. Good goal of course, but he isn't making some of the runs and chasing down players like he usually is. Musa at the end Agree about DD and Amartey. Hopefully Allardyce will recognise DD's ability and pick him over the likes of Henderson and a barely-fit Wilshere as any right-minded manager would. Amartey looks like he could play a big part this season, and he's still very young. We could have another gem on our hands. Re: Vardy - Yeah, a bit rusty maybe. Didn't get the ideal pre-season, though. I think he deserves a chance to get back up to speed before I'll criticise. I think his goal today will give him a boost.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Good to get the win today. Important to get the first three points of the season, ahead of the international break. Amartey was absolutely outstanding and I'm starting to revert back to my original thoughts that we do not need another CM. That was the closest performance I've seen to Kante. Also good for Vardy to get on the scoresheet, Morgan was impressive again and great for him to score from the corner. Important to keep supporting Riyad, yes he missed his penalty today but he contributed to a winning eleven. Okazaki was superb again, his technical ability is top draw and he linked the play ever so well today. Thought Simpson and Albrighton were very good again. Atmosphere was good today, quiet in parts but decent overall.
Dan Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Thoughts... - We've had a lot of games like it, in-particular in the Championship when we came up, where we ought to have won the game by about 4 or 5 but ended up having to hang on in the end. A win's a win, but we could've made that so much easier for ourselves today. - Daniel Amartey was fantastic. If we'd bought N'Zonzi this week and he'd played like that on his debut we would all be saying there's nothing to worry about. It's one game, and one game against a pretty poor side, but he was excellent today and probably my pick for MOTM. - Swansea are in trouble. They were piss poor, a they always seem to be here for whatever reason. - Mahrez cannot take another penalty. That's 4 missed in under a year. His miss today very nearly turned it into another Villa away of last season, where we'd gone from the position of being well placed to thump them to not even winning the game. He puts that away and I'm sure we end up winning 4-0 again. - That weather it's unbelievable to think it's August. If the pitch was like what it was in the second half in the first half, it would've been waterlogged. Game became a farce in the end. - Okazaki had a very decent game, it's just a shame how little he does in front of goal.

TJB-fox Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Has to be said: Shinji Okazaki was absolutely fantastic today. I said in preseason I thought he'd do better this year due to being more settled. Everything about him looks better. His first touch is far sharper, he actually looks like a goal threat as oppose to just a general nuisance, he looks stronger and more physical in the air and his confidence looks sky high. I love Shinji

Whilst I agree with others that Mahrez did not have the best of games today, I also agree with the above. In the blink of an eye he can pull something out of the hat and the attention Swansea paid him opened up opportunities for other players. Even on a bad day, he is still an asset because if the opposition decide to leave him, he can make something from nothing. If the opposition stick to him, that space will always be there for others. (7 beers in, hope that makes sense)
Callabinho Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Brilliant today I think. First half steady, well in control without being too ruthless. Second half we started to look a real class act until the weather properly deteriorated. Don't think anyone had bad games, Mahrez could be accused of trying too much but I don't think he was terrible.. Amartey was man of the match today, showed glimpses of being able to do the Kante role, a bit more confidence and he will be a real player. Shinji was brilliant as was Danny as always. Very happy bunny.

I love Shinji This. We've all seen the difference a year of PL Football has done to the likes of Drinkwater, Vardy and Morgan - Okazaki is the same IMO. He continues to settle into English football, his link up play is fantastic and he wins us points with the work he does.
KingsX Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Sheer fun to watch the return of an assassin and his accomplice up front. Mahrez has to take a step back before taking two forward. Stop making defensive swarming pay off -- pass out while others shred the gaps you create -- and see if they keep doing it. Back four looked like consolidating last week’s improvement (Morgan mostly back on form) but partly due to an improved midfield / poor opponent? Concerned that Huth seems indispensable but also a magnet for yellows. (Granted today’s was a joke).

I love Shinji Is it me or does he seem a bit taller than I thought he was last year (obviously just me!!!). But, he can leap like the proverbial salmon (handy given the conditions!!!) and won so much in the air... He was my joint second favourite player today...
Woof Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Well Claudio certainly kept that one up his sleeve. To unleash Amartey in that role and for him to have such an outstanding game was quite a surprise! Nervy end but we dominated for most of the game. Still perhaps lack a bit of sharpness but we are looking good for the most part. I thought Simpson had another good game and Shinji seems to have gone up a level this season. Drinkwater must surely be in the England squad - he's got right back to where he was last season and you can see him getting even better.
Webbo Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 How big is Zieler? I didn't think he looked very big in the goal today compared to Schmichel.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 So impressed with Amartey today, his tackling and pressing were as good as the snake and his range of passing looked even better. Really excited to see what he can do against Liverpool. Mahrez was pretty poor again, conditions didn't help at all but he needs to buck his ideas up with Kaputska and Musa sniffing around. Swansea were dog shit, could hardly pass to each other, reckon they will be firmly in a relegation battle all season long.

tsintskaro Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Against Arsenal Mahrez was very good covering Simpson and in todays game Simpson was good in first half up in right wing yes,Mahrez struggles for sure, but tbh he did some very good passes which may be called "chances" At least he is not lazy boy and runs quit much Amartey was good, but please dont get carried away Drinkwater, what to say,MOTM again.this guy is fcking everywhere Simpson - solid.so was morgan-huth. Fuchs seemed bit out of shape Albrighton average as always, helped in defence a lot Good to see old Vardy Okazaki played well,i mean he ran well, but there is needed something new - Slimani type well Musa has yet to prove a lot
Livid Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Thought we did well. Should have killed the game off and avoided the anxious last ten minutes. Vardy back on penalties for me.
J.Lisemore Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Amartey was a boss in the midfield along with Drinky. It didn't work out for Mahrez today at all, he was awful. Should never be on penalties either ffs, worst penalty taker I've even seen.

Agreed I thought Drinkwater was utterly class today. Such an intelligent player. England leaving him out in the summer is looking more and more stupid every time he plays
StanSP Posted 27 August 2016 Posted 27 August 2016 Amartey clearly man of the match for me. Notable mention for Big Wes as well but Amartey and Drinkwater seem like the new partnership for this season. As much running as Drinkwater does linking backwards and forwards, Amartey does even more. And he's physical enough to win balls back and get tackles in where necessary. Big part played for the first goal too. Dispossessed Fer with ease and set us on our way. Not gonna make too much of Mahrez' penalty miss. It didn't change the outcome of the game (you're dealing with hypotheticals if you think otherwise). His head is not in the right place and that showed overall in the performance today, regardless of penalty miss. Just need him to have one great performance to get him going. He's trying too hard and decision-making is off. Overall, thought we should have put the game to bed before they scored. Could have been 3 or 4 up had we been more ruthless and clinical. Nevertheless, an easy enough win despite the last minute nerves. 3 points expected. 3 points gained. Also hope Kasper's hernia op goes well on Monday.
