Club Brugge - 1st Champions League Game - Post Match Thread 0 - 3

Great result. That early miss for them was huge for us as it could have led to them being a lot more defensive. Solid performance from us and took advantage of their mistakes well. Don't think we created too much ourselves though, which it sounds like we'll need to against Copenhagen.

Thought the ref was terrible in his handing out of cards. Ulloa's was never a yellow and they should have had at least one yellow.

Couple of let offs with their boy missing 2 very good chances. Other than that though, Kasper remained largely untroubled.

Really happy with the lads effort though, 100% commitment and hard work. Hope they enjoy their pizza's on the flight home.

Nothing but total positives from me tonight. I've ran out of rep points but you all deserve one for supporting the best club in the world. What a night, what a performance, what a team. Couldn't be more proud right now and we did ourselves and the PL proud. And Marc Albrighton summed up what we're all about - energy, commitment and heart. Clear MOTM for me and I'm delighted for him...

Fantastic result and a historic night. Brugge handed us the match on a silver plate. I honestly don't think we were brilliant, Brugge made it so easy. We can play a lot better. However happy days:scarf::chant:

so proud - first proper win in europe - just pissed that i couldnt be there in the stadium in person - criminal that there were empty seats.

lets just make sure that the first home game no one comes home able to speak - be loud and proud and scare the shit out of them!

Solid performance against a poor Bruges team. Hopefully that gives us some momentum now as I still think we're playing below last season's energy and performance levels. I feel like this season is just warming up and we haven't really seen the 16/17 true foxes yet. Tonight bodes well for the games to come.

Does anyone else think that no double punishment rule is a load a bollocks? If the keeper clearly takes out a player in a goal scoring opportunity it should absolutely be a penalty and red card.

They weren't at it, but a near on perfect performance away from home in Europe. Dictated the game and set the pace, defended intelligently (bar down our right hand side a few times but Albrighton realised that early and got back and got himself stuck in well), and scored a cracking goal.

Thought Slimani showed flashes of promise, he's got like a taller Luis Suarez look to him, I'm excited for him to settle in. Feel loads better after Saturday now, just the pick up I needed to get me through the back end of the week! I've missed playing midweek football lads, I tell ya, brings back good memories!

I'd rather my defenders, defended personally. Hernandez was fine but he was caught out on multiple occasions. Simpson rarely does that.

I am withholding any judgement on Hernandez or any other summer 2016 signings until I see them play in multiple matches (preferably five or more).  So much of defending (or of football, really) is knowing your teammates really well.  How they react, and what you need to do to either support or cover for them.

I just don't think Hernandez has "learned" his fellow defenders and midfielders well enough yet.

Now we need to take this form into the league.

Very convincing performance and victory. Game management was superb. Getting the early goal really settled our nerves and influenced the players to be calm and do the jobs required, both individually and collectively.

So happy for everyone that travelled over to Bruges, as well. Could only really hear our fans to be honest, unless it was Bruges fans moaning at their team for not playing quicker or for giving it away.

Slimani seems like the perfect fit for this kind of game and a huge upgrade on Ulloa. Vardy and Mahrez back to their best but I think Albrighton or Amartey get my man of the match. The former sets us off on their way but the defensive work he did to help out Hernandez and Fuchs when on the wings was superb. Amartey because his work-rate and ability to cut out attacks and be calm in possession next to Drinkwater and spreading the ball out with ease to other players.

Everyone played their part though. Really enjoyable victory and despite it 'only' being Brugge, you can only beat what's in front of you and hopefully others start to take us seriously again and we're not just here to make up the numbers.

Really surprised anyone even doubted it game. It was like playing a lower championship side.

Good win

Like you really knew anything about the opposition beforehand.

All this needs now is Bob weasel fox +1-ing with a 'good post buddy'

Slimani done ok for his first game. He allowed us to attack on two fronts instead of everything being fed up to Vardy. Musa also looked good when he came on, as did Demari Gray.

Gray showed great determination matched with mature play in a game that was basically won. A great sign to see from a young lad.

Let's be honest Hernandez wasn't as bad as people are making out. He was a solid 6.5/7 . Even Simpson (who I'm a fan of) gets beaten at least once a game so I'm no particularly worried. Bare in mind he had Mahrez in front of him so was quite isolated. Promising performance though overall

Was disappointed he didn't score (or at least hit the target) with the chance he had. Not having a go but it was a fantastic chance.
