Durnerz Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Solves our failure to win penalty shootouts in major tournaments then...
Wymsey Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Deserves opportunity. Though still not sure, whether they needed someone more experienced who knows internationals better. Just hope fans have patience with what he's trying to do.
foxy boxing Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 realistically is there anyone else available that could do a job with England, it is so much of a poisoned chalice and we are an underachieving nation with regards to major tournaments and English players are now so crippled with fear and anxiety and how they will be perceived by the sports press which is one of the most vicious in the world. if any manger can get England into a major final it will be the biggest achievement since winning the world cup and at this moment in time seems as likely as finding alien life on another planet but as fans all we can do is hope.
AKCJ Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 The fact this has taken weeks only highlights the incompetency at the F.A.
ousefox Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 This would seem like an even more underwhelming appointment if he'd have been given the job straight after Sam's departure. He's a very likeable guy and I'd love him to do well, but his CV doesn't exactly fill me with hope. Still he can't do much worse than the majority of his predecessors.
Dan Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Just not bothered anymore. Good luck to him but he'll definitely need it.
MrSpaM Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Another whipping boy that'll get told to play the players that earn the most shirt sales Joy
foxy boxing Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 they are called the F.A because they know sweet F A
Captain... Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Why not, the FA don't really want him, he doesn't really want the job and the players can't be arsed. Seems about right.
MPH Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Underwhelemed... but who were the other options? as in.. who else actually wanted the gig?
J.Lisemore Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Didn't he demand a salary close to his predecessors? Gareth Southgate the highest paid International manager in the world?...probably.
purpleronnie Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Brilliant decision, totally out of the blue. All that waiting and money spent on a selection committee was worth it.
Webbo Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 I remember predicting he'd be England manager on here 7 or 8 years ago.
Osavo Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Yawn. How boring. Really struggling to care about England at all at the minute.
adam Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 Why four years? He should have a deal that lasts till the world cup. 2 years would be fine then extend if he is any good.

Even Southgate knows this & held all the cards. He's got an annoying face, he speaks funny, he missed that penalty & he's nothing more than a bang average. I wish him all the best. It would be nice to enjoy one more World Cup before I die.
Jon the Hat Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 I quite like that he is not the previous lot, he knows the kids, and might just try something a bit different. Seems like a smart guy, will be interesting to see how he does. I really want to see him trying something during the qualifiers which might actually win us a few knockout games come the finals.
pSinatra Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 To be fair, we did look half decent against Spain & we looked interested. I'll put that down to Southgate, seeing as it's been such along time since we looked anything like that.
lgfualol Posted 30 November 2016 Posted 30 November 2016 - Dominate qualifiers - Do ok in friendlies - Football's coming home - Out in the group round repeat

Jattdogg Posted 1 December 2016 Posted 1 December 2016 W@nker england. 4 years? tell him 2 years or lump it. nope , gotta promise 4 years salary and let him go after 2. Make coaches/managers earn that long term contract by seeing how they doin a tourney. At this point you could put a dog in charge and get the same results as any england manager in the last decade. heck hire me, jattdogg! For what its worth im fine with the hire but clearly got issues with the 4 years.

That's what the FA wanted to give him. He more or less demanded a contract until the end of Euro 2020. Just shows that nobody else wanted the job. Got to give him a chance, he hasn't started to bad, and it's not my money.
