dave123 Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 If you asked me a couple of years ago I would've said Izzet/Lennon/Heskey etc. And when Mancini played at Filbert Street he gave us a touch of class that I never thought I'd see at Leicester again. But now we've got Mahrez who is even better on his day. But for consistent performances I'd go for Kante. Nobody else is as good as him in that position; he is superhuman.
Fox92 Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Kante Izzet - lets be honest he could've played for any team in the division. Had absolutely everything as a box to box midfielder. Mahrez' first touch is probably the best I've ever seen though.
CosbehFox Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Kante Mahrez Izzet - I read the other day in our relegation season and his last season, he made the most assists of the PL.
norwichfox Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Overall, Davie Gibson for me, and in the premiership era it's tight between Mahrez and Kante, I think Kante would just edge it on consistency although Mahrez has such a wonderful game to watch when he turns it on.
cc_star Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Kanté ...Unless Mahrez can be more consistent Muzzy & Lennon & especially Heskey with more than honourable mentions Schmeichel can't be under estimated though, he's proving my opinion of him 2 years ago very wrong (I'm happy to say)
Dennis118555 Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Can't believe only one person has said cambiasso! Absolute class, had so much influence in our staying up
AyewJoking Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 kante and what he could do for the team...any team! shout out to mahrez although he probably peaked last season

foxy boxing Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Neil Lennon was a terrific player for us and Steve Walsh when he moved from defence to attack was immense" obviously Kante is some player a a a big loss for us
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Kante, although Mahrez can be absolutely sublime when on form.
deepbluedevil Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 When on form, Mahrez can do things no other Leicester player I have ever seen can do. Doesn't do it often enough recently, but his peak is beyond anyone else we've had.

In my time he would struggle to get in the top 10.
Arkie Bennett Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Torn between Cambiasso and Kanté. Kanté's contribution to last season's success can't be underestimated; time and again he prevented opposition attacks and took the pressure off our back four. I've never seen a player with such anticipation, awareness and the capability to nick the ball. I'll go for Kanté, with honourable mentions for Cambiasso and Garry Parker.

hejammy Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Most skillful - Mahrez Most influential in the team - Kante
StriderHiryu Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Good thread! It depends on what you use to qualify the "best." If you judge a player based on technical ability then it's the Prince of Algeria himself Riyad Mahrez. What he can do with a ball is ludicrous, check out some of the Soccer AM clips with him in. His first time touch and command of the ball is incredible and there is a reason why his fellow professional players voted him player of the year. Xavi even said he's good enough to play for Barcelona! Just look at that tough for Vardy's second vs Man City again, it's incredible. But of course, technical ability is just one pillar to measure on. Kante only had one season for us, but led the league in tackles and interceptions across all of Europe. He was the most consistent player we've ever had and the only player I can think of that I could say has never had a bad game for us. There was a reason why "Hide Kante" threads started appearing around January last year! Neil Lennon also deserves a mention. When he left for Celtic it was revealed that in terms of stats only two midfielders in the country had better numbers than him - Roy Keane and Patrick Viera. In fact his departure was the start of our tumble down the leagues, that's how important to us he was. Another favourite of mine is Muzzy Izzet. A great box-to-box player who could score, pass and tackle. A poor mans Paul Scholes perhaps, but I thought he was rather good! And how about defenders? Matt Elliott is a cult hero of mine. A really nice guy but also one of our best ever defenders who also scored some key goals in huge matches for us. A great leader too, and great at organising the back four. All in all, because I was not old enough to see the goalkeeping greats, I will give it to Mahrez. One day he will leave and then it will hit us how good he was. He's the sort of player I never thought we'd see play for us because that type of player ends up at the very biggest clubs. Appreciate him while you can!
ithuriel Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Before my time but I'm gonna go with our world cup winning goal keeper, seriously though, it is too hard to call, gonna go with Kante for the moment.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 It's hard to split Kanté and Mahrez. Totally different players but every single attribute you need between them (yes, they've both won headers before...) That's what made Mahrez's goal at Man City last season so special - it showcased the best qualities of the two best players ever to play for us.
murphy Posted 1 January 2017 Posted 1 January 2017 Steve Walsh. He had that Bothamesque quality of dragging the team up along with him and being a much more valuable and influential player than his actual ability should allow. Also Lennon. Everything went through him, he was always available or on the ball. I also remember his match saving intervention in the play off final against Palace, tearing off like a ginger rocket to thwart a nailed on Palace breakaway goal. Mark Draper. Brilliant in a rubbish team. Really thought he would go on to be an England regular but fell away when he joined Villa. Can't bring myself to say Kante. Didn't want to come and couldn't wait to leave. His role here brought us rewards beyond our dreams but can only be considered a cameo.

Agree about Draper - ridiculous that he languished so long with County. You could see the quality - great footballing intelligence - unfortunately, typical footballer intelligence as his appearance on 'A Question of Sport' was testimony to.
