How many points is enough for safety?

Recommended Posts

It's definitely going to be above 40 this year, I reckon 42 to be safe, as Swansea and Hull both look like they can pick up a few points.

I reckon Boro and Sunderland won't make 30 but 18th place will be a high tally.

We're not safe yet and churlish to say so, 3 wins would do it though I'd say

Not taking last nights win into consideration, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is how the league pans out by the end of the season, maybe with us finishing 10th

I think we can say it is LIKELY that Middlesbrough and Sunderland will go down, leaving one place. Hull and Swansea are the prime candidates fighting to avoid this place but realistically, anyone from West Ham down is in serious danger and we're only 3 points ahead of them. Only West Brom and the teams ahead of them can say they are realistically safe right now. Our form should see us through but make no mistake if we go on a losing streak until the end of the season we will almost certainly be relegated

Average since 92/93 season is 36.8 but the early prem years had some high points and still get relegated, 49.42.45.38.40.40. The last 16 seasons the average has been 35.3.

42-43 should be good enough. Leicester needs about 2 wins and 2 draws at this point. I'm hoping they finish just under WBA in the Top 10.

I'd say 42, about 2 weeks ago I was like 37 would keep ya safe but it's all changed lately

We now have 4 away games on the trot and that does worry me abit. Yes we are playing a lot better and yes we got our first away win against what is looking like a titanic sinking West Ham but one away win doesn't make a summer!

I'd have been more confident in getting up to that 42pt mark quicker if we had maybe 2 home games in that 4 game trot. Hopefully we can get to that 42pt mark asap because we could easily get dragged back into the mix if our away form goes back to how it was

I think to come up with something sensible, you would need to check how many 6 pointers there are still to be played out.   Blunderland and Boro have more or less gone.  The other place is still up for grabs, which is precisely why we cannot afford to fanny about with selection against Everton.  Get thumped there and in Madrid and the whole complexion of our season changes again with all these away games coming up.  I just hope CS does not copy CR by 'throwing' EPL matches.   Domestic Cup games is one thing.

We are not safe until we get to 43-44-45.  That should be enough.

Pretty simple equation: We have to equal or better the results of only ONE of Stoke, Bournemouth, Burnley, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Hull OR Swansea.

No way is it going to be over 40pts. Hull have had their 'easy' run and their remaining fixtures are tough bar Sunderland at home which they will probably win.

Being really generous I have them to finish on 38pts.

Sunderland, Boro and Swansea to. Be lucky if the Swans get to 36.

Last night must have been a real kick in the teeth for both Boro and particularly Swansea.

A review after the last cluster of games.

Form via last six games - 33 points will be enough

Form via last ten games - 35 points will be enough

Points per game - 34 points will be enough

46 points is the current line of safety.

If you mirror the results across from the reverse fixtures:-

Hull 34

Palace 32

Swansea 32

Middlesbrough 32

Sunderland 26

Next week's fixtures

Saturday 15th

Tottenham v Bournemouth 1230

Crystal Palace v Leicester

Everton v Burnley

Stoke v Hull

Sunderland v West Ham

Swansea v Everton

Southampton v Manchester C 1730

Monday 17th

Middlesbrough v Arsenal 2000

Games left to play top six:

West Brom 2/6

Hull 1/6

Middlesbrough 4/6

Southampton 5/6

Crystal Palace 5/6

Swansea 1/6

Bournemouth 1/6

Watford 3/6

Burnley 1/6

Stoke 1/6

Sunderland 2/6

Leicester City 3/6

Chrystal Palace, back in the days of a 22 team league.

Ah makes a bit more sense. Still rough though! We won the league with that total according to some lol

Exactly, i think 3 or 4 points will be enough but I also expect our Goals tally to improve and be better than most of the above.

This (above) is part of the reason why we need to avoid complacency.

Sunderland & Boro look doomed but Hull & Swansea still look capable of picking up points - and both have only 1/6 remaining against the top 6 (btw West Ham omitted?)

It's quite conceivable that Hull and Swansea could both reach 38 points or more....probably not, but certainly possible.

That brings Palace into play (5 matches against top 6.....though they did just win at Chelsea). They have 8 matches left, though, not 6: they also have Burnley (H) and Hull (H), very winnable on recent form.

Of course, their other "easier" game is against us....immediately after the Atletico 1st leg, when we'll probably be knackered & possibly either dispirited or exhilarated.

My guess is that we probably need at least 1 more win to be sure, possibly a win and a draw.

We could do with picking those points up in the upcoming away games or a lot could be riding on our last 2 home matches v. Watford & Bournemouth (or Spurs!)
